I'm not sure how I feel about this.

If they killed a combatant unlawfully then there should be an investigation, our soldiers are trained and have to abide with the Geneva convention as is proper and correct for a 'civilised' country.
It would be very hard for someone who has no military background to have a true opinion.

The problem is Islay the combat is not always taking place in a civilised country.

Dave.
I appreciate that however our soldiers are trained with rules in place and are the most highly trained soldiers across the planet. Therefore killing in an illegal manner is wrong and should be treated as such.
It should never have come to the attention in the first place, the solicitors that has started this practice should be warned to stop these claims.
We send our troops into hostile environments where they play by the Standing ROE for The Theater of Operations. Unfortunately it's very unusual for the bad guys to play ball therefore things happen that people will balk at, they are still doing the job. It both our job and our political leaders' jobs to protect them. There are always a few who will step out of line, they are few and far between.

Crux is would you put yourself in their position?? If not then don't question the job they have to do because you simply don't know what it's like
If some of these Lawyers are similar to the ones I have spoken to then I believe they should also be reminded they are "not above the law".
Any one else had an ambulance chaser ringing you unsolicited and try to convince you that you were involved in a road collision and entitled to compensation on a no win no fee basis.?
Allegations of misconduct are vigourously investigated by the military Police.
I would expect these cases have suddenly been dropped because the lawyers, themselves, are under scrutiny and have to account for "apparent investigations into spurious claims". At least Cameron kept his promise to deal with this should there be abuses by the so called legal witch hunt.

Well composed,I couldn't agree with you more.
Oh come on some of the scenarios we are talking about are like the Sergeant that shot the prisoner on camera! He was already wounded and it was a disgusting incident!
Breaking news. Last surviving member of Bomber Command, hauled into European Court and charged with genocide. Accused of attempting, in the process, to prevent a one party state across the length and breadth of Europe, which has become the 'wish' by common agreement of the new order.
Did the wouldned person have a device on him? was he still holding a weapon, in a situation like that you do all you possibly can to talk down the situation to a safe place but at all times you protect you and your men. unless you know the whole situation you cannot pass judgement
Are they? Where can we read that.? If what you are saying is correct then I am sure it will not be dismissed as spurious!
My question was for Islay. above

In my 20 yrs with The RMs, which included The Falklands and a few other locations that were non too friendly when we arrived, I was not ever aware of the RoE (Law) being broken.
(Just one man's experience)
As Royal Marine Sergeant Blackman was prosecuted, convicted and jailed for his alleged actions and an appeal has been lodged I fail to see that justice was not seen to be done.
I still would like to see the links and evidence that Islay is talking about?

I believe our Armed Forces to be the best-trained, most-restrained and least gung-ho troops in the world.

And whilst I think it is right and proper that they should be seen to act within the RoE, it has appeared to be ridiculously easy for these allegations to be made against them.

Islay= just what the board needs , another bleeding heart liberal...sigh....

Don't forget a lot of these Lawyers have local people (Iraqis) on the ground pimping for them, trying to find people who will stand up in Court.
It very easy to bring a false charge, and very difficult to defend against one
X-years down the line
Does the enemy fight within the Geneva convention?

That's gotta be a No Gav!
