Ukraine entry for this years contest is directed at Russia...

Songs with political connotations are not permitted but this doesn't stop political voting does it?

Borderline.
One could argue that it is historic rather than political.
I've not heard it and assume wouldn't understand it anyway, but I'd be tempted to allow it.
to be honest if the whole circus was banned or never held again I really couldnt care less, its a pointless useless competition...and its hardly european when you see the countries that are in it..(yes i know why theyre in it)

Agree with Baz, ban the lot of them, complete waste of time.
Excellent! I love a good old Eurovision rant on AB!
And it's started early this year!
Sadly this song will probably get canned. Ukrsine probably doesn't care. It'll save money by not taking part as last year. Money that can better be spent on the war effort

Ichy - you will no doubt recall TATU? ;)
Did'nt ABBA win the eurovision contest with 'Waterloo' -and they weren't singing about the underground station !
I don't remember Tatu being er "political".
I remember the obnoxious Dima Bilan, whose victory probably was the tipping point that finally drove Wogan away.
Hilariously, many Russians complained about Ukrainian Verka Serduchka's entry "Dancing Lasha Tumbai" which they claimed contained the words "Russia goodbye"
I do remember how Portugal coordinated its revolution by the timing of its eurovision entry on the night,, or rather how it then commemorated it with Madrugada (April dawn) the following year.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madrugada_%28song%29
Retro, Waterloo was a metaphor.
actually I think it is OK
and also it lets me rap on AGAIN about the betrayal of Yalta ( Zacs - oh not her again - no one knows who she is)

Yalta was the meeting where Churchill betrayed and gave away the rights of the eastern europeans to one Josef Stalin
All the German POWs were convicted of war crimes and did 10 y hard labour. The poles who had fought hard for King George ( not note Churchill) were sentenced to 50 y communisim - the one million hifi ( willing helpers - they were russian and joined the German armed forces oops wrong decision but it seemed right at the time ) were corralled into Gulags and none came out

so yeah - Oh Ukraine -- see the Long Starvation of 1922 - singing about it seems OK to me
// One could argue that it is historic rather than political //

Oh satirical reference to Putin as Stalin
yeah good one
didnt spot that
Well said Peter : we won't beat Outin by singing at him - that money is still needed for the ATO . But we can have fun doing it.
The Eurovusion bigwigs may not see it that way

Yalta is a sad place now
Did you know Putin plans to refund Russians who holiday there ?! They can't go to Turkey or Evypt now so they may have no choice
Itchy

you are as eva a mine of information
your digging out the viddie and radio exchange when the airliner was shot down - of the russian saying " no armed men - there are just women and children falling out of the sky " - - - I still remember with awe and wonder
Just a question of interest leading one in the right directions Peter
Personally, I think the ruudy song contest should be banned altogether !

Annual drivel.
mikey, when wales hold their independence referendum, you can campaign on a "ban eurovision" platform.

:-D

^ where has Tom Jones been anyway?

Mind you Sir Cliff had two goes and failed.
Mush....If cared more about this annual ghastly spectacle, I would gladly mount a campaign !

Lets not forget that a transvestite ( with a beard ! ) was one of the previous winners !
Don't mention our Tom to mikey. The Labour Party want to ban him.
Mikey at least acknowledge that Eurovision helped, after a fashion, bring down the fascist Caetano in '74 and that whatever happens to this song this year it will hopefully get the Kremlin's propaganda machine steamed up at least for a while :-)
