Why Is The Daily Mail Blocking Comments On This Story

Two young men have ruined their lives, and taken another...but the strange thing here is that the Daily Mail have blocked comments on the story.

Normally, we see comments blocks on online news sources when the trail is underway, but in this case, the trail is over and the sentences have been delivered.

So can anyone explain why comments are suspended???

At first, I thought it might be that they'd simply forgotten to take the block off, and then Gromit suggested that there may be others who hadn't had their trial date set.


But then the idea that the paper would not want to split comments over more than one piece doesn't quite make sense, because newspapers don't generally do that - if say, they ran several stories about a specific event, all those stories would have comments enabled, unless there were a legal constraint in place.

And as an FYI...Daily Mail readers aren't in the same league as Express readers, when it comes to all the big 'isms'. This is why you've not seen me slating DM readers, or the paper itself for quite some time.

AB discourages multiple threads on the same story, so why shouldn't the Mail discorage multiple comment threads?
The Mail were, accepting comments before your link was filed (and still are) so what is the problem?

unfortunately we have another case of an AB person, SP in this case who hates to be shown up and loves to continue making the hole bigger and bigger instead of just packing his bags when its obvious the game is up...

But the Daily Mail actually does allow comments on multiple stories. Sometimes when a story is developing, it will be reported on day one, with a separate report on day two and three (etc). All will have comments attached.

mikey4444 - I was curious as to why this story had comments blocked, even after the sentence had been passed down.

And now I think I know why.

This story is from the Associate Press. It wasn't written by a DM staffer. I've had a look at some other AP stories, and every single one of them has no comments enabled.

Not sure why that would be.

The first report was posted at 5.10pm presumably shortly after the the sentences were given. They included comments at the end. Two hours later, the Mail published Sp's report. I cannot be bothered to meticulously compare the two reports but I think they are similar. As comments were already being taken, I see no problem with the Mail not starting another one.

If the Mail didn't want comments because it was a muslim murdered, as many of you seem to be inferring...

1. Why did they include comments on the first report?
2. Why is it still open for comment
3. Why have they not removed it.

sp I assume had only seen the story he linked to, if he had seen the other one I doubt he would have asked the question in the OP.

I have a feeling that it's something to do with the fact that the story I linked to is from a press agency (in this case, the Associated Press).

I can't work out why that would be though (I'm only assuming this because I've checked a number of DM wore stories and none of them have comments enabled).
