I am in the process of starting a blog that focuses on current issues around the globe. In particular, I want to address the things that many people either don't understand or have misconceptions about. One of the first things that comes to mind is the Islamic faith. The recent rise of the jihadist movement combined with Western media bias has created a wave of Islamophobia, when in reality, jihadists and peace-loving Muslims do not share the same views. Not being from the faith myself, I would very much appreciate a Muslim's view of Islam...the basic tenets of your beliefs, common misconceptions that you can shed some light on, or just what your faith means personally to you.

You will get no information on this site from Muslims. Either there are no Muslims on AB or they are not willing to be identified. Go to Twitter and carry out the same process that I did . Follow a number of Muslim men and a number of Muslim women ... I have found it a very interesting experience.
Ps
I assume when and if you write this uninformed blog it will carry as much bias as the 'Western media' does?

In the fragmentation that exists within each of religious blocks. For instance, according to one estimate, Christendom is broken up into more than 30,000 denominations. Islam is also divided by conflicting beliefs. According to a Middle East news agency, a Muslim scholar, Mohsen Hojjat, recently acknowledged that “disunity among Muslims is the root cause of problems in the Islamic world.” Other influential religions, such as Buddhism, Hinduism, and Judaism, are likewise fractured into many conflicting sects, but a more damaging influence has to do with the long-standing history of religion meddling in politics.
The most common misconception is the notion that Islam is a religion of peace. Go and read their wretched books if you doubt this truth.
Likewise the faiths of Jew and Christians.
They all eagerly await a catastrophe where their particular flavour of monotheistic arrogance prevails of all others, resulting in the deaths of billions of people.
You will also discover that, far from being a worthy inspiration for a system of morality, they exalt the worst of of humanity's shortcomings.

First of all I wish you good luck because you are asking a “Muslims” view on a website or section which is full of atheists.
Having said that and being the only known Muslim here, I will tell you that Islam does not have problem but a few Muslims do. Ask yourself a question. What and how much did you know about Muslim extremists and Jihadis before 9/11? Not much I guess. Why? This known Jihadi culture was started, invested in and promoted by Americans when Russia invaded Afghanistan. Because that was the only way to stop Russian invasion and demolishing Russian federation. Since then the story has changed and now the whole plan is to create a Greater Israel and for that reason anarchy is being spread in countries mainly around Israel to give them more area to spread. And in between WMD etc to occupy Oil. So to do this USA and Co have created and are supporting another form of Islam which they are using Islam ss their own weapon. This Islam depends on a few people who were either once trained by CIA (OSAMA Bin Laden) or were in captivity where CIA, Mossad and other Western agencies had access to (Abu Bakar Baghdadi, Jihadi John, Baitullah Mehsood and many more). This is a short story of a very long and complex situation behind Islamic extremism as we know today.
Now, what Muslims believe. You give me the questions that what misconceptions or questions you have and I will try answering instead of me writing here about things you have already read or heard about. But on the other note now you wait and see how this atheist brigade will pick on my post and that will be your answer about Bias media including social media as you mentioned yourself.

So, a few things...I am writing this blog because I recently became interested in global politics and current events, and found that there is a lot about the world that I am unfamiliar with or don't fully understand. I started educating myself on a variety of subjects and realized I wanted to share this with others like me, who want to learn about the world we're living in.
As for it being an "uninformed" blog, realize that it will be extensively researched from every angle possible - religious texts, informational websites and books, media portrayals (from different countries, political leanings, etc), and (my mission here and elsewhere) discussion with real Muslims and their personal feelings towards their faith and the world's understanding of it. There is no such thing as having no bias, but if you gain as many perspectives as possible, you're that much closer to getting the whole picture. I simply want to find as many pieces of that picture as I can and organize them in a way that people can gain enough of an understanding to form their own opinions.

With the best will in the world I feel you should do as you say first - educate yourself as fully as possible before you even dream of starting a blog on the topic.
I am constantly amazed and impressed on here daily that the Atheists know more about the Religion I was brought up in than I do , and trust me that isn't a snipe it's just true.
Your education will be an adventure and then you can have a think about blogging.
Good luck.

Reality-Check, may I suggest you begin by reading the Koran in full, understanding that not one single word of it is open to censure in any way, shape, or form. You say you intend to enter into discussion with ‘real Muslims’ to discover their personal feelings towards their faith, but bear in mind that Islam actively encourages its adherents to lie for the cause of Islam and it’s highly unlikely, not least for the reason given above, that any Muslim will answer your questions truthfully. From your opening paragraph where you say //The recent rise of the jihadist movement combined with Western media bias has created a wave of Islamophobia, when in reality, jihadists and peace-loving Muslims do not share the same views.// I gain the impression that you are not embarking on this endeavour from a position of neutrality. You have already reached a conclusion that you are unable, as yet, qualify. Your mission, though admirable, will require an enormous amount of research, a starkly and often uncomfortably critical eye, and many years of study. I wish you luck with it.

I've no idea what that means.

There are millions of Muslims who have only ever read the Koran in translation. They don’t all read and speak Arabic - but they manage to get the gist.
