Waht A Difference A Day Makes !

It seems that Osborne's Budget is already starting to unravel. According to Nicky Morgan on "Question Time" last night, the huge cuts to disabled people announced in the Budget is now only a "suggestion"
I wonder if this is due to the 20 Tory MPs that are not happy with this measure ? After all, Dave has a majority of only 12, and he could be facing another defeat.

Yes I think there will be another U-turn on this. It is a sheer disgrace that we increase overseas aid each year, while at the same time introducing cuts for our own, especially for those most in need.

Given that the planned (suggested?) changes will not affect any of the existing recipients I am surprised Osborne even mentioned it as a saving in his speech. It shows political naivety in my opinion. The reality is that spending on disability benefits is still rising in real terms- it just won't go up as much as it would have done as some new claimants will not get as much as would otherwise have been the case especially as some known abuses of PIP are restricted. He'd have been better off saying nothing on this and then having a pre-prepared explanation ready in case someone trawled through the detailed budget calculations.
FF....well I am sure that his 20 fellow Tory MPs who are rebelling will know that and stop kicking up a fuss !
But Nicky Morgan rather surprised everybody, including Dimbleby, when she seems to suggest that this was policy, but only a suggestion.
It has all the classic hallmarks of a climb down, in the face of a possible defeat.

It seems to me that the more caring amongst Tory MPs may yet save the day here.
Nicky Morgan made a complete pillock of herself last night. She appeared to gain-say everything that Osborne said in the House about these cuts, although she got herself into a knot, which Dimbleby had to help her out of.
She said one things and then the opposite a few mins later !
I said this on a previous thread, but this is a typical Tory budget.....making people who are already well off, even better off, at the expense of the poor and disadvantaged. To pick on disable people is despicable.
I am surprised that the right-wingers on here are not leaping to Osborne's defence....perhaps they can't ?

Doesn't look as if there is going to be a u-turn after all viv !
The Tories are now disowning Nicky Morgan !

The Conservatives working majority is 17. And they can usually rely on the 2 Unionist MPs if needed.
Sounds like there are enough rebels to stop this.
Unfortunately for Cameron, rebelling is habit forming, and the power it affords this small number of MPs will make managing his party, and the country, extremely more difficult.

That is the difference between the Tories and Labour, the Tories are their own people and posses a voice of their own, and not afraid to use it if the need arises.
Whereas Labour like all left organisations throughout the world, they have to toe the 'PARTY' line.
One has only to notice the right-wing ABers, they will step in and criticise their government, their PM, even their party, if the need arises, but one never sees the lefties criticising theirs.

AOG....not much sign of any AB right-wingers supporting these Budget plans to cut benefits for disabled people on here today.
The Tories are in complete disarray ...even their own Ministers don't seem to know what they are talking about when they appear on prime time TV.............its a ruddy shambles !
