Are God And Religion Mutually Exclusive?

Does the fact that so many different often conflicting religions exist constitute proof that (at the very least all but one of) the various gods that are a cornerstone of nearly all religious beliefs are merely arbitrary constructs of an imagination run amuck?

Today we are all witness to the consequences of stubborn arbitrary religious beliefs.

For those who insist on continuing to believe your god exists, what makes your god so special . . . other than that it is you who are the believer?

No. It could be that they are all looking at God from different viewpoints. Different frames of reference.

erm can you use a Venn diagram to explain that to me ?

you draw and 'o' which is a religion and a dot inside - their God
and then you draw another 'o' and another God, another dot
and then just put a point somewhere on the paper but not in any of the 'o's and say that is a god and he is outside religion

I think the difficulty is that mutually exclusive has a set ( ha ! pun intended meaning set theory and also agreed and decided ) meaning

That's quite a battleground you've got going on there in your Venn diagram, Peter.

I suppose the really sad thing is that the one seeking refuge outside the circle would most likely be the first to come under attack from all the dots inside the circle.

No. They are all looking at something that exists displaying actual properties which when observed in the appropriate frame of reference could be verified making mutual agreement possible.

And so with all religions too. They are all correct and know God. You just need to work out how to convert one viewpoint to the other. I'll leave that for your homework.
