AOG, probably not. But no matter what the Police do there are many critics. The amount spent was not really justified in this instance.

Nick - came out with all sorts of stuff and was believed - or as the somewhat dull plod said on tel last night - "his allegations were credible". The current DPP's advice is that this course should be followed and this means many more cases heing taken to court on word of one person alone

Nick I think is now an involuntary patient in a psych hospital where his main delusions are .... being assaulted by the great and good thirty y ago. The fact they re mad does not mean they havent been assaulted ....

but it does screw the case evidentially ....

Yes and the important word being 'alleged'.

Operation Midland effectively was the reopening of the cases of 3 child murders from the 70s and 80s. New 'evidence' came to light, so the police were obliged to investigate. The witness turned out to be not credittable and no prosecutions resulted.

How exactly could this have been done differently? Should the witness have been instantly ignored and no investigation taken place?

We all have 20-20 hindsight - but the police have to investigate allegations which they believe to be credible - as they were in this case.

Well, as suspected fantasists go, he must have been very thourough in his research to get the name and address of the care home these MPs were abusing without it first appearing in the papers.

The most cursory of investigations would disprove the claims of some of these fantasists. The police, however, with pressure from above, choose to believe every word and trash the lives of their innocent victims.

Most of the people named were dead. The people above the Police are the Government, and they would not want this. You seem to be hinting at a liberal conspiracy, or a political one, but all this has happened under a Conservative led Government.
