Oi Canary. Who are you shaming. No one apart from me has answered your post as yet so keep your emotional drama outbursts, until you have something to bleat about, to yourself please.
I would be the first to say leave her be "BUT" how many more Canary? with respect to this child & I do feel for her but where are her parents in all this? I have not read the full story but common sense should prevail in this instance.
You are obviously suggesting that every illegal family from darkest Africa who reach our shores should be granted asylum because they face FGM. It happens all the time in their backward stoneage existance. She is with her parents isn't she? Surely it is their responsibility to prevent FGM happening to this child. If they are agreeable to it then they should be told it is not our custom to advocate this barbaric practice. Do you think the parents should be allowed to stay here and allow it to be done to their child illegally.?
If the 'family' are deported back to Nigeria because of illegal entry then they will and can refuse the FGM when they get back from whence they came. They didn't flee Nigeria to prevent their daughter being mutilated because she was born in the UK after they arrived here.
Am I being hard or is someone a sucker here. ?
The little girl's mother fled because of attempted mutilation upon her.
//Omolegho Uwagboe fled Nigeria in 2001 after her community attempted to cut her - ‘six women forced her down in an attempt to cut her’. She managed to escape and hide in Lagos, ‘run and hide, run and hide, until my husband found the money to rescue me and bring me to the UK’. //
If they are here illegally, send them back where they came from, to do anything else would simply be the thin end of the wedge to allow even more who follow them to try it on for the same reasons, no different to the economic illegals in Calais in my book, we cannot allow/afford to take in the Worlds waifs and strays. Let them go through the system by all means, if their application fails then get rid, not our problem.
So her parents are here illegally and face being deported, where, the little girl may face FGM, surely the parents can stop this happening as most of the time the parents let it happen.
The girl’s parents should have left long ago. The child was either conceived whilst they were here or they travelled here between conception and her birth. Either way they were foolish in the extreme to consider having a child whilst their situation was so parlous (though somehow I have it in my cynical mind that the child was part of their master plan to be allowed to stay).
Nigeria is not a very nice place but as has been mentioned FGM is illegal. The reason the couple are giving for seeking to remain could apply to half the population of Africa because that continent is rife with medieval practices. The only reason this family is any different to all of them is that they have gained a foothold here illegally.
I daresay the couple’s “legal team” (paid from Legal Aid, natch) will secure their residence here and the UK will gain yet another family with no entitlement to be here. And more will follow in their footsteps because they know that once here they run very little risk of ever being made to leave.
Your opening paragraphs do not encourage reasonable debate, Canary. I shall not waste time engaging in a civil discussion when you clearly have no intention of accommodating views that conflict with yours. You obviously enjoy seeing the UK degenerate into a third world kharzi. I don’t so I’ll decline your kind request to sign the petition.
