When some footballers are being bought and sold for £70m - £80m, an annual record profit of £30m may not seem a big deal. Yet to all those involved at Turf Moor, it is a massive achievement made possible by good management and shrewd judgement. Burnley FC have paid off their debts, made improvements to the ground (which they have bought back) and the figure does not include the transfer fee for Danny Ings which, astonishingly, has yet to be decided despite the transfer having been made at the end of last season. The record profit of £30.1m is not only a big achievement by the club but also one of the highest in the Premier League as a whole - only Tottenham and Man Utd recorded higher profits. Makes one proud to be a Claret:-)
See you next year Ken. The Prem is a tough nut to crack though. You will notice how much quicker it is in some respects. I have Burnley in my pre-season punt at 10/1 for championship winners, would like to see Grimsby make a late push for a nice double. Nice to see one of the original clubs from when the Football League rules and traditions were first laid down, back in the top tier. Good luck (except at the 'Brit'). Mighty Potters.
10/1 - i got 14s:-) If we do go back up this year, i believe/hope that our finances are such that we can afford slightly better wages as an enticement to those players with PL experience to join us. No matter what league we are in, our strict wage structure often deters players from joining when they can earn much more elsewhere. I believe we can manage to improve that side of things without selling the club down the river.
Ken, just checked my ticket it is 14/1 :-)). The longer you are in the Prem. you will find that wages have to rise. I think the downfall of many clubs is that they are stuck with players on big money and long term contracts even if the worst happens and they are relegated. Leeds being a perfect template for disaster.
^^
Glad to see you weren't ripped off by those bookies, Togo. :-) I suppose, also, that the longer you are in the PL, the more you amass through tv, sponsorship, etc, so the more you will be able to allocate to wages.
