I think he should be made to pay it back as well as a stretch in the slammer, the longer it takes to repay then the longer the stretch imo.

Of course he should. He's not only a thief but also a fraud and then to claim he was confused over the rules. Any dimwit knows faking a letter to steal more money is not confusing.

Joe Soap would get a jail sentence in this case and the false letter should add to it!! Political parties aside, how much will the barristers use the law to excuse him as much as possible and for the most lenient sentence, as much as expensive barristers can provide.

Definitely a prison sentence due but an 'open prison' is not a holiday camp and the inmates can't 'nip down to the local' Sandy !
