Deep defence cuts by this Government have now left the Falklands with naval protection....I hope nobody tells the Argies !

I reckon Cameron is hoping the Argies try to invade. How that will strengthen his vote to stay in Europe.!! If we needed a aircraft carrier to supply vital C.A.P. for the rest of the amphibious assault group whilst out of Typhoon range of the Falklands he can go cap in hand to the French and ask if we can borrow theirs providing we return it in good condition. He can...

Zacs...I am interested in whether you think the Falklands are being best served without any RN Warships ?

Ditto Britain and British interests without an Aircraft Carrier ?
Absolutely not. In both cases although the Aircraft scenario is a bit more debatable.

///the hard done by unfortunates.///

Would that be the ones that they sent out search parties to find?

Thanks Zacs...all clear now !
Lets not forget the Falklands have far superior land based defences than they did in 82.

thank you prudie although you appeared to have been ignored.

the great labour party cut defence to the core and the wonderful new leader is even worse! but I suspect the reason your answer is being ignored is due to the tory hatefest that is currently ongoing!!
Islay
It is hardly a tory hatefest. I and a few others on this post have always supported the Tory's but I would be less than honest if I said I wasn't happy with how Cameron puts other countries welfare and security before his own electorate and citizens. No one likes to be treated like an idiot and Cameron is trying to bluff us. He is arrogant, has little experience of any type of work or industry and does not listen to those around him who have.
I don't hate the Torys but I do not appreciate the danger this man Cameron puts us under.
What about the danger that Blair put us under?

I went to The Falklands in '82, (Four-Two Commando) we had an inspiring Leader at the time.
Sadly you couldn't say that about Cameron, and I'm a Tory Voter.

10ClarionSt....is it really only 16 ?

I knew it was bad but not that bad...ruddy hell !
10clarion street. The RN has 77 commissioned ships

I thought 16 sounded a bit low...even Switzerland has more than that !
Without going into point scoring between parties I would say that I would expect that from a Labour leader. For the most part I have always considered the Labour party to be a pacifist group of appeasement since the last World War. Blair was a dangerous showman. Flex his muscles on the world stage.
I have never known a Tory Prime Minister and their government run down our armed forces with such savage cuts and leave us in this dilemma.
It is not only the Royal Navy who are holed up in port. The army have lost much of their main battle tanks and there is no parachute regiment to deploy troops quickly to the worlds trouble spots .Many years ago I flew out of an RAF station in a Chinook. It was one of only two that were still serviceable from two squadrons on that base. RAF fighter squadrons have just disappeared in just a few years.
We should have a government who re-equips our armed forces as a priority with the best kit.

///Besides the Royal Navy, the Royal Fleet Auxiliary and the Royal Marines operate their own flotilas of naval vessels which complement the assets of the Royal Navy, however they are not included in this list or the above figures.///
Mikey
Defence procurement costs a lorra lorra bucks. You wouldn' t like to hear how I would get the money if I were Tory PM.
You cannot complain that a government is not building more housing stock to accommodate our rapidly increasing overseas guests with all the infrastructure to support them. Money has to come from somewhere and money to the EU and overseas aid should be the first to go.
Mikey, no aircraft carrier; you're an island nation? Then do as the Goons would have done: Tie a bunch of engines to the North end of Scotland, and full-speed ahead SSW.
