All state pensions.
They should be phased out so that the generations who have paid into them still get them. Those who are currently paying into them, will have the funds transferred to a scheme of their choosing...either a workplace pension, or a private scheme.
The funds that will be available to their private schemes will fund a massive expansion in private enterprise. From this, more jobs will be created, and from that more money will flow through the system.
Get rid of National Insurance, and release the money to the people so that we can decide what to do with it.
The biggest drain (by some distance) on public finance is pensions.
No government will ever attempt this, but it makes a lot of sense.

Yeah, like giving it to countries that had enough money to send a probe to Mars as hundreds of thousands of their citizens live in abject poverty and women in this country can't get life-extending breast cancer medication.
It's time this folly ceased once and for all.
