It appears that the washing of the feet of Muslims by the pope is a very bad idea indeed;

and after the 'walls and bridges' silliness, another papal no-no.

It looks as if the pope has submitted completely!
If they make erroneous assumptions then that's their mistake. One would hope most would not come to such an unlikely conclusion.
Are these the refugees to whom the vatican is giving asylum?....as if.

He would have had no problem in finding candidates, Rome is awash with Bangladeshis and Pakistanis, though I've not been able to find out why or how they get there.
Rome is also, being the seat of Christianity, the place IS dreams of over-running and turning the Vatican into a mosque.
I couldn't understand why he found it neceassary to wash muslims feet !
Pope or podiatrist? The jury's out.
He is a podophile..

A public display of piety - grossly misplaced.

naomi; Interesting link. In my link in the OP, Pope Francis is giving the Muslim 'the full monty', i.e. not only washing his feet but kissing them too! and I can't find in your's any reference to that, except perhaps under the heading, Protestant Practice, in the woodcut by Cranach the Elder, he appears to be doing just that; another mystery.
They're all potty!
//Kissing of feet is an important Christian religious ritual. Feet washing, which precedes the kissing, is a sign of humility[21] and is looked upon as an "act of lowly service, of loving service, and of self-giving service."[22] This caring act "reflects the grace of God’s never-ending, unconditional love and, as such, its observance is surely a means of grace with exceedingly strong sacramental characteristics."[22] Jesus washed the feet of his disciples and then commanded them to "wash one another's feet" (John 13:12) with love and humbleness as a service through which one can express "the love of God and the saving, cleansing grace of our savior Jesus Christ to each other."[22] After cleansing, a kiss would be bestowed on the feet as an act of servitude. By performing the actions of the lowliest servant, Jesus demonstrated what kind of servant-based leadership was expected from his disciples.//

^Yes. I reiterate, they're all potty!
Mamya, is jesus actually alleged to have kissed feet or is this christian practice just an affectation of clerics desperate to demonstrate their humility.
/After cleansing, a kiss would be bestowed on the feet as an act of servitude /
kind of lacks certainty as if it didn't actually happen but would have done had certain unspecified conditions been met.

Jesus said; "For I have given you an example, [the washing of your feet] that you should do [to each other] as I have done to you. I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him. If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them."

I think that is a noble sentiment, - but no mention of kissing.
I can't answer your question as I have only the same points of references we all have.

I was simply adding a little more info on what I have always considered to be part of the Maundy Ceremony - I may well be wrong.

The gesture is only wrong in the eyes of some observers and was I'm sure performed as always with good intent.
It’s strange. This is a man to whose word millions of people cleave, and yet he is so dangerously ignorant of the world.
Khandro, let's hope he learns something - but I won't hold my breath.
