Well, I never have, woofgang -nor did anyone else last time I went. I was just thinking- it's ages since I wore a headsquare. I have a box with scarves/shawls in and there is one I wore as a teenager. I smiled at it. An old-fashioned thing to do nowadays. They were useful for keeping your hair tidy. Re:OP it was a bit rainy and windy so H.R would wear a scarf.

There are times when a lady would choose not to follow the traditional hat rules. Two common examples are:

My Grandmother always dressed like that, with a veil, whenever she went to Mass, which was almost every day. Her generation did.
