Because of the backwards beliefs reinforced by religions...
I'm less sure that the question should be why witchcraft, but why are the authorities not preventing this abuse of children. How common is it ? What is being done ?
I blame Suffolk
Is it coz all immigrants are savages, proving that multiculturalism is a failed experimenzzztzzzzz?
Has it got anything to do with our new, exciting and culturally diverse, "society"?

Nothing to do with certain backward countries then?

Crikey Gromit, wake up, do you realise what your said in your sleep?

You really shouldn't be dreaming things like that.
Poor children. Hard to believe that any decent person is not speaking out against this practice and those in power need to sort themselves out and put the victims first.

I thought the more PC expression was "our new and exciting culturally 'enriched' society.
My, you must have been rubbing your hands with glee when you read through your 'paper of choice' today and took note of the bountiful opportunities for you to post your usual 'black/muslim/savages' 'hell-in-a-handcart' threads.

Perhaps if these 'backward' countries had been left with their own religious beliefs instead of having all that Christian nonsense foisted on them such exorcisms wouldn't occur?

Ah yes, perhaps if it wasn't for my 'paper of choice' we wouldn't hear of such things going off in this civilised country of ours.

Ah yes, those good old days of witch doctors and such things.

Apparently it is a cultural thing so us in the West should not poke our nose into
the way they do things in their culture and try to make them behave like us!!!

//the West cannot stop poking its nose into other cultures, and attempting to enforce its cultural practices on other cultures who neither request, desire, or appreciate our desires to make them behave 'properly' - i.e. like us. //
^Lol, I wouldn't mind betting some of those religious practices were charming.
I like the photo caption, "Dr Richard Hoskins (right) has been assisting Mardoche Yembi (left)" . I'm glad they cleared that up.

Most of what is presented here is historic and is old news. The subject of this report was a victim 16 years ago (when he was 8, he is now 24).

I have no doubt that witchcraft is still seen as a threat by followers of African religions. Guarding against it is part of being a follower. But it appears that the problem is being blown out of proportion, and that this doctors report is substantially out of date.

An easy mistake to make. :-)

I don't know how some of these countries would go on, if the West stopped poking it's nose in?
same as religion. Why? mankind seems addicted to total BS.
Because at the moment all the do-gooders seem more concerned with the children in the camps in france, Italy and Greece rather than the ones in this country.

The answers are probably not much different from the last few times you've posted this question:

http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/News/Question1161925.html

This is a historic case, and absolutely needs to be investigated, because it's a form of abuse.

I agree with TTT here - it's total religious BS.
