life then deportation, how does that work?

Seems like a good sentence.
Fitting sentence then get rid.
Because a life sentence is usually only about 15 years but can be more, but rarely would anybody actually stay in prison for the rest of their life.

On release he would then be deported.
The judge has already ordered that he be deported back to Tunisia on release.
As he has already been told he will serve his sentence then be deported - I'm not sure what else can be done!
Maybe send him back on Pinochet Airlines?

doubtless whilst in prison he'll form an unbreakable bond with his pet budgie, meaning that on his release article 8 will come into play and he'll end up being deported no further than a council flat in Swindon.
