AG - //AH > I am in the middle of a biography of Charles Hawtrey, the Carry On star - fascinating man, with a seriously impressive and diverse body of work across radio and theatre.
Oh hello! Is it the blue book with his face in the middle? I've also read the shorter Pvte Widdle book. I loved Hawtrey! His eye movements in the Carry Ons were brilliant! //
It is - and I read the shorter book as well. This is by Wes Butters, former Radio One DJ and, if memory serves, one of the people behind that frog record that drove everyone mad and probably made him eight figures!
//Have you read about the fire he had at his home in Deal and what he said on being rescued out of the upstairs window? He died the month before Kenneth Williams I recall (Aug 88?) //
Not got there yet, I do remember he was 'entertaining' at the time though.
It's so sad because his early career colleagues talk about him being a wonderful actor and consummate professional, but he lost it all with career bitterness, and the loss of his beloved mother.
(Naomi apologies for diversion!)
