I'm sure this happened but can't find anything about it. I worked in Butlins Minehead in 1976 and the Chinese restaurant on camp had to close because some of the workers there were arrested for being triad members. Anyone good at digging this news up? Thanks

I used to love up the coast in Watchet and can vaguely remember this incident. I have spent a while googling but haven't turned anything up though....good hunting !
great typo Mikey
Nice being loved up anywhere.
if you put 'Minehead triad arrests' into google then something does seem to come up on gettyimages but it's all archived and you have to request it. Still suggests your memory is correct.
Prudie....yes, I can see it now !

Actually I had my first "date" in 1968, at the Regal Cinema, in Minehead.

I took a girl to see "Here we go round the Mulberry Bush" which starred the Spencer Davies Group.

Little did I realise that in 1970, as a young apprentice with "GPO Telephones", I would be working alongside Spencer's Dad. His nickname was Dai the Box, as he did the bricklaying in all pavement manholes.

He used to regale us with stories about having the Rolling Stones in for Sunday tea, in his front parlour !

Happy days !

Thanks for trying guys. It goes towards confirming my memory is correct, but maybe too long ago to find something specific. I remember thinking the waiters looked too nice to be gangsters! I also think it was reported in the News of the World (of course).

You could try searching here ::

This is the local paper for the area. If you put a smaell ad in, I am sure you would have a good response.
Parlour? Now there's a word from the past!
It is Jack.......much in use when I was a boy though !
