TTT, No, if you have 5 in a convoy and the 3rd gets Computer malfuctions, can the 4th take evasive action? I doubt it very much, when that convoy exits the motorway who is going to control the flow of traffic on the roundabout that the convoy meets, the only way i can see this working if the delivery point is on the Motorway it self, can you imagine the cost? I will ask...

Do they come with ejector seats?

I wouldn't trust a driverless car let alone a plane, OG, you'd seriously get in a plane with no pilot? I work in software and believe me many of you seem to overestimating the effectiveness of programming. I'd rather have Ollie Reed after a bottle of vodka fly me that a computer!
I too worked in software TTT; in fact I programmed my first computer in 1963, so I think I am fairly familiar with them. I will agree that computer programmers make mistakes and also have oversights, so do drivers. The difference is that once a bug is found in a computer program it can be corrected and the correction put on all computers; the same is not true of humans.
eeey Lad you do make me laugh. The cat's out of the box. This will happen.

yes bhg then you know that software is linear, it has to be programmed to react and yes modern processing power is immense but it still has 0 judgement and 0 intelligence, AI does not exist. It doesn't matter how good the programming is, or how correct, you cannot program judgement, it simply is not possible to to cater for all eventualities. I'm not saying that humans are perfect but to replace humans machines have to be above human errors to be accepted by the masses. The first time one of these causes death, and it will, they'll be banned.
Road danger is a man-made crisis, with human error accounting for over 90 percent of accidents, said Bob Joop Goos, chairman of the International Organisation for Road Accident Prevention.

We'll just have to wait and see.
It seems to be working in this video and claims it to be safer.

I dont think they will be 100% safe but I do think they will be safer than humans.

I'm certainly prepared to drive along side them.

Computers are not perfect either, but they can fly rockets to the moon and back home safely, yes with some hiccups, thats the price of progress!
Ratter, I used to carry steel a few years ago & would never ever travrel as close as those two HGVs! Why, the way that 2nd unit braked would cause the load to go straight through the Headboard ( Front ) of the trailer & taking the drivers life, I have seen this happen, there are different loads that the driver drives accordingly, Bottles on pallets would be all over the road, Timber would damage the trailer, Fluid tankers even with baffles within the tank can "push" the hgv forward, Farm animals can also "push" the HGV forward and can kill whatever animals that's inside, I am talking about experience, It's taken me near 40 years to gain experience within the Haulage industry & I think I have transported near everything that made, a computer may be good but it can not make an immediate decision like a pilot / driver, I have been in positions that require's experience eg / Fog / Ice / Snow, how can a computer decide what action to take?
It uses it's Fog / Ice / Snow subroutines and decision tree ?
TWR. I honestly think that the designers and developers are very aware of all these situations and have developed the software to counter these issues.
