With the UK threat level increase a few years ago has the description "suspicious" got a different perception, more akin to paranoia perhaps?

It's good that they pixillated the plate number as we wouldn't want to be able to identify the owner would we?

I like the statement from the MET after the controlled explosion:

'The vehicle is deemed as not suspicious'!!!
Oh dear, the message is obviously be careful what you leave on show in your vehicle.
Whilst it is better to be safe than sorry, it doesn't look like there was any real reason to suspect it. I think they panicked.
Parked on double yellows with a large canister full of liquid on view. Yeah, I'd blow it up!
Will the owner have to pay for what you call an MOT?

Hence my question....

Lots of people chance parking on double yellow lines and leave 2L bottles on show containing lemonade or other liquid.

Grounds for suspicion? Not convinced!
Had this vehicle been a bomb (and with a container of possible accelerant on view it was a reasonable suspicion) and had it exploded, there would have been a rash of questions on here asking why the Police had not dealt with it before it could explode.
It clearly wasn't 2 litres of coke though, it looked to me like 10 litres of questionable liquid.
You seem to be forgetting the heightened security status, the recent threat from Irish factions. The Police would have been aware of any reports on the Police National Computer, perhaps the gentlemans name would have set alarm bells ringing or possibly it was shown as 'no current keeper'.
To suggest that any unattended car with a liquid container on board will be blown up is mischievous.
It looks like a Skoda or Vauxhall ... so I would probably say yes.
Hang on Talbot, Skoda are owned by Volkswagen now.
Ah, OK, I see what you mean...

Shoota > You seem to be forgetting the heightened security status,

Not so! See my OP.
If it was a Zafira it would blow itself up.
The Telegraph says there were what looked like petrol containers in the car.
That was a well known tactic for car bombs during the 'IRA years'.
Parked in a place where it would have caused damage to a TV studio, Yes they were right to blow it up.
You mentioned 'a few years ago'. I'm talking in the last week, the threat level from Irish republicans has been upgraded to high.
//It looks like a Skoda or Vauxhall ... //

Well it does now. Vauxhalls are quite capable of blowing themselves up.
good for the TV camera's, probably didn't even need a BBC producer...
