//Britain is becoming more ethnically segregated and people may seek "Donald Trump style" solutions if politicians do not act, an MP has warned.

Former Labour shadow minister Chuka Umunna blamed the widening "cracks in our communities" on a lack of action since race riots 15 years ago.

The Streatham MP also criticised the immigration debate for focusing "almost exclusively on numbers, with too little attention paid to how we integrate people once they settle here".//

Only about 19% of the population of Wales speaks Welsh.

In other words, nearly 81% of us speak English, like Dylan Thomas ::

"The land of my fathers. My fathers can have it"

Paid â malu cachu.
Thanks Jack, for lowering the tone of this debate !
Well done Mikey, you've learnt a little Welsh at last. Pob lwc!
Mikey > Webbo...don't we have a role, in making our guests feel welcome ?

Not in Finland (they are a different breed).Migrants couldn't hack it and returned in droves!
As I have said all along the rise of the right is one of the reasons I am voting out
Austria- Poland- France to name but three
'The rise of the right' can be repeated ad nauseam but the fact remains that sitting in ghettos with no interest in mixing with your adopted countryfolk is at the root of the problem.
Speak the local language, it's not that difficult once you start, and move on from there.
Too many expensive services provided on the taxpayer will never really help.
//Only about 19% of the population of Wales speaks Welsh.//

Is that because the Saesneg come to Wales and refuse to speak the local language? Perhaps the English should take heed, or speak Arabic in the future.
Wales is merely a Principality of England and as such the inhabitants should speak exclusively English. :-)

I had my hair cut by a Muslim this morning and had a really nice chat at the same time ! ( by the way, he is voting LEAVE ! )

I too (and my kids) get my hair cut by a Muslim ... he and his friends left their homeland because of oppression ... from some other Muslims.
Mr J2 went to live in mid-Wales in about1980. He can sing, so ended up joining the local Welsh Male-Voice choir in order to settle in. Over a few years he learned to speak Welsh. It's a weird language i.m.o..

Fine if the Welsh want to learn it as a second language, but all should speak English first.
The Muslims in the densely populated cities like Bradford, Dewsbury etc, are just living their lives in much the same way as they did before coming here, they have no interest in making contact with their British neighbours unless it is for their benefit. We are the Infidel to them, their religion is all. Trevor Phillips is right, we are sleepwalking into a crisis, integration needs to be addressed. He pointed out that practices such as FGM, forced marriage and the subjugation
...... Of women should be addressed.
Jourdain, I have never set foot in Wales. However, when I worked in a call centre for National Rail the Cardiff centre closed down and the Welsh language line was moved to Newcastle. Being a bit of a linguist I decided to teach myself the language with the aid of a textbook and a Welsh speaking colleague. I struggled at first but once I had cracked the mystery of mutation it was incredibly simple. It is the only language I know where you can literally translate word by word and make perfect sense.
Askyourgran > Trevor Phillips is right, we are sleepwalking into a crisis, integration needs to be addressed.

As New Judge recently said. Philips was inaccurate here. We are not sleepwalking, we are fully aware!

It's going to get a lot worse. Nobody has a clue.
Just to put the cat among the pigeons of our Cambrian friends, Wales is not by definition a principality. That term describes a country whose head of state has the title of prince. The Prince of Wales is not head of state.
Some of us do agchristie.
Jourdain, I haven't heard anyone anywhere come up with any decent idea how to deal with the issue of integration.

It is a massive subject to tackle made worse by attitudes of the likes of Merkel. No control equals no viable solutions.

/// I have Hindu friends, Afro-Caribbean friends and now this Barber and I enjoy a good chat. When I was in BT, my regular Squash partner was a Sikh. ///

/// If we don't make the effort, then we will never know what we can achieve. ///

I trust that there is not one Tory voter amongst them mikey, because didn't you say in another thread that you don't tend to mix with them?

/// Now...... this may not be very scientific, and probably isn't, as I tend not to mix with Tory voters, ///
AOG....Tory supporters are very thin on the ground here in Wales !
