I would still like to know what is so special about 'peanuts' which causes such severe affliction.

Jackdaw - I don`t think it`s just peanuts. My friend`s daughter can eat peanuts because (as someone else said) they are not nuts, they are legumes. It`s other nuts that she has to carry an Epi Pen for (cashews etc) I suppose it just depends what one is allergic to.

It seems it's the protein in peanuts, and some of the others, but how it's different, I don't know

This man deliberately gave a customer a peanut product after being asked not to. He lied, shows no remorse and it's not the only thing he did wrong in his wish for money at any cost.
I developed a peanut allergy in my thirties....it started in a strange way and became serious. I also react slightly to anything that is a legume, but I can eat tree nuts.
I carry two epi-pens and, because I don't wish to never eat out with friends and family or to go on holiday, I will say that I can't eat anything with peanuts in. Some folk may think I'm being precious or latching on to "an allergy" but I still trust them to be honest with me.
The one time I've made a mistake was when bacon for a sandwich was cooked for me in groundnut oil by....the daughter....hmmmm?....but as soon as it touched my lips and tongue I realised what was happening....lips and tongue swelling and tingling....

And yes, I do read all packaging, a nuisance but it's surprising where you find peanuts.... in an anti-snoring spray for example! That was a close shave.....☺

This man deserves his sentence...and the loss of his business.

I'm allergic to bees. Luckily I've only been stung twice and my reaction is fairly slow, plenty of time to get to hospital. The doCtor told my mum to not assume that my reaction will stay the same, the next time could be 999.

Almonds are not nuts. Peanuts are not nuts. Brazil nuts are not nuts. Pistachios are not nuts. Horse chestnuts are not nuts. Walnuts are not nuts. Cashew nuts are not nuts. Coconuts are not nuts.

Hazelnuts are nuts, as are normal chestnuts. They don't have a fleshy outer covering. Almonds are drupes
