I have always wondered what Ozzie crocs get to eat, when there aren't any stupid tourists around.

According to a report on the radio earlier, the area is known for crocodiles, so, yes she was stupid ! Feel sorry for her though.

ummm....I suggest you read the wiki link on salties, which I have helpfully provided.
The main reason that more people have not been killed by these off the coast of Northern Queensland is that the danger from crocs is well known and most people would not attempt a swim, especially at night, as seekeerz has said earlier this morning.
This woman took a very serious risk, which was entirely avoidable.

TWR....I can remember many visits to London Zoo, in the 50's, when I was young ( my great uncle was a keeper in the lion house)
I can recall looking at the crocs, in the reptile house with complete horror, and I still have the same fear. I was watching Steve Backshall the other week, where he was "interacting" with some komodo dragons, and the feeling was the same.
Its unlikely that I will ever visit Oz, but if I do, I would probably remain in the car, looking through the window, like we do at Longleat !

It was at night so she probably wouldn`t have seen the signs anyway. I wouldn`t want to swim at night anywhere unless I really knew the beach. I remember being down in the south of Western Australia and we walked by a lake and noticed a sign that warned that you could catch amoeba meningitis from the water. Nobody in their right mind would swim in there. Australia is one of those places where you find out what`s in the water before you get in it.
