Trump Says Us Should Consider Racial Profiling
//Saying "we have to start using common sense", the Republican also reiterates his support for more scrutiny of US mosques. Republican White House candidate Donald Trump has said the US should consider more racial profiling in law enforcement, after last week's mass shooting in Florida.
"I think profiling is something that we're going to have to start thinking about as a country," Mr Trump said when asked on CBS whether he supported more profiling of Muslims in America.
"You look at Israel and you look at others, and they do it and they do it successfully. And you know, I hate the concept of profiling, but we have to start using common sense," he added.//

The practice is controversial and is illegal in many jurisdictions. It should not be confused with offender profiling, which is an investigative tool.
Given the above distinction I would say that offender profiling is OK, but racial profiling is a form of racism and therefore not OK.

There is something to be said for targeting limited resources on folk considered more likely to be involved: but I wonder how well it works in practice. First off the potential perpetrators will know where authorities are concentrating effort and recruit those who appear not to fit that specific profile. Secondly the act may drive a wedge through society with one group feeling like outsiders, not part of the rest of society, and it causing more conflict in the longer term. Might be best to allocate all the resource needed to check all.
Looking at the UK and the US, one country has fifty times the number of gun-related deaths per 100,000 folk than the other.
One country has nineteen times as many guns per 100 folk than the other.
One country has 0.9% Muslims and the other has 4.5%.
One country is discussing banning Muslims and not gun-control, one isn't.
Guess which is which?

Religious profiling masquerading as racial profiling - as long as the Jews, Christians and Bhuddists et al are similarly handled. Two questions - what is their visa process - profiling perhaps? What do the FBI and CIA do to earn their keep as to Inland Security - profiling perhaps?
Wake up Donald, it's been going on for ages - anybody who has ever undergone a Green Card application will be more than aware.....there's even health profiling on that process....
