Also good to see that some have more or less stopped too and the local area has seen a drop in emergency calls.
It won't be the solution for all, but then what is?

I think its quite an attitude shift.....offering people stability and some control over their lives and dialling back on the judgement. Many many years ago now, the area where I worked had quite a high level of comparatively rich retired people, and their wives, who had been the european managers of indigenous workforces overseas....the very very last of the chota peg and sundowner generation. Many of them had crossed over from habitual drinker to addict. We were working in the community, they would be referred to us because they were failing to cope with everyday activities. They became stressed and embarrassed by needing help and the alcohol consumption would go up making things worse. Putting in simple practical help, like someone to shop and clean (which they paid for) would give them back supported control of their lives and reduce the alcohol intake...similar thing.
It does make absolute sense. I remember giving up ciggies over 30 years ago - there was a fear factor then. I sometimes think about giving up wine in the interests of weight-loss, but I just don't want to think that I will not be able to have the pleasure of savouring a really good Merlot etc.. Controlled drinking is a good idea.
