I know absolutely nothing about the "lady" beneath the layers so obviously, it's not she who disgusts me.
At least the French also impose a £25,000 fine on a husband who compels his wife/daughter to wear a burqua.

//The ban means France is officially the second country in Europe, after Belgium, to introduce a full ban on a garment which immigration minister Eric Besson has called a "walking coffin".
While French women face the fines and ‘civic duty’ guidance if they break the law, men who force their wives or daughters to wear burkas will face up to a year in prison, and fines of up to 25,000 pounds//

No one is suggesting banning Long Coats Mikey, but then you know that already.

Fender, a good reason to ensure we retain strong control of our Borders, and know who is coming in.

A one piece burqua covers everything including ,believe it ,your ID and gender.
If you wear a long coat and a balaclava to achieve the same purpose in a bank it may suggest to you the wearer had a chill but to a teller it would suggest a raider.
A teller would be unable to differentiate and because of stupid un safe PC restrictions would likely be too worried to challenge a burqua wearer.
This is the British 'tolerant' way of conducting matters.

/// The DSA said in a statement: 'An essential part of the test is the check by the examiner that the person being tested is who they say they are. ///

/// 'We discovered many Muslim women did not know that they could request a female driving examiner, where present, to complete the identification part of a test. ///

/// 'The DSA agreed to put this policy in place because we strive to offer an excellent and fair service to all people regardless of gender, race, disability, religion, sexual orientation and age.' ///

AOG....seems a sensible solution to me.
Anyhow. Whatever the so called wrongs and rights Switzerland is free to make their own legislation in a country not shackled to a European Union. They have done it because they can and so could we if Teresa has the .....er....courage.
Are they actually allowed to drive with these, obviously visual hampering, layers wrapped around their faces?
Mr aog
All very commendable by the DSA. Then we have to bend over backwards to appease any one who wishes to defy our rules and way of life.
After the burqua ban in France back in 2010 two women, wearing burquas, were stopped by the Gendarmerie. The women were requested to produce their National Identity Cards. They declined in open defiance of the law that applies to all and said ,"We do not obey the laws of the Republic".
The woman were arrested and the inevitable mob riots ensued in the muslim quarters of Paris namely Trappse.
The law of a country should apply to ALL.

Yes they are. I pointed out one only a couple of days ago to my wife.
If and it is only an 'if' the banning in Tissin, Switzerland and indeed elsewhere goes towards ameliorating the situation of women who are coerced into wearing the garment - then good.

But then again maybe that is another of my 'futile ambitions'.

I think the last paragraph just about sums up the need for Muslims to wear their absurd garb.

//In the southern French city of Marseille, Muslims went on a rampage a year ago, in July 2012, after police ordered an 18-year-old woman Muslim woman who was wearing a niqab to show her identity card. The woman refused: "I don't obey the laws of the French Republic," she said, and allegedly bit one of the officers. Scuffles then broke out, with around 50 Muslims present, including the woman's partner. Three police officers were injured.

Four people, including the woman and her partner, were arrested and taken to a police station, but were released shortly afterwards "in a gesture of appeasement during Ramadan," according to the public prosecutor.

Marseille's deputy mayor, Nora Présozi, supported the police: "Many women wearing the burka are looking for confrontation with the police," she sad. " By doing so, they are conveying a poor image of Islam."//
Perhaps the supporters for the wearing of the burka would care to answer this question?

Should burka wearers be allowed to drive vehicle while wearing the said garment?
Wow! I cannot even imagine attempting to navigate one of you famous round-a-bouts hampered by one of those horse-blinder type thingies.
Watch out, one of these could be driving near to you.

AOG, that's an interesting question - as one who has very little peripheral vision I really don't know if a lady wearing the garment who has passed the eye sight requirement checks is at any greater a detriment than someone else.

I presume an optometrist or similar would know more.

Told you my vision was bad - didn't know the thread had moved topic.
