World's going mad.
World's going mad.
It is interesting to note that since the lorry incident so called media experts have been falling over themselves not to link these outbreaks of violence and killings to ISIS, Islam or Muslims, just persons with mental problems, no different to what the IRA did, ETA or Palestine the excuses seem to be.
Why these attempted cover-ups, is it so as not to cause offence to a certain section of the communities, scared of being classed racist etc, etc?
Seems funny that all the recent atrocities have been carried out by followers of one particular religion, so why not call a spade a spade and come out with a solution, because at the moment various governments seem to be running around like headless chickens.

I agree, AOG.
I watched the news 3 times last night for around half an hour at a time. The news readers, reporters and interviewees all seemed to be desperate to say that it may not be ISIS/Islam/Terror related. You could almost see their eyes glaze over and hear the robotics in their voices as they chanted their mantra.
Didn’t work for me, my first thoughts were ‘Muslims again.’
The other 'fashionable' namby pamby excuse seems to be that the perpetrator may have mental health problems.
Very comforting the victims and their families, I’m sure.

I too agree: when I turned to BBC online news this morning to see the latest on Munich, unbelievably it wasn't even mentioned on their homepage which led with a feature about an old conversation between Cameron and Merkel.
This failure to name the enemy is the reaction of the appeaser, according to Winston Churchill, it is the action of, "one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last" . The problem is that whether you are pacifists or warmongers, gays or heterosexuals, atheists or Christians, wealthy or poor, blasphemers or devout, jihadi terrorism does not discriminate. Every one of us is a target: Islamist terrorism is genocidal and it isn't "out there", as the innocents of Nice, Munich and elsewhere have experienced.

// year-old Iranian German who killed 9 people in a shooting spree in Munich has “no links” to Islamic State and appears to be a “classic lone gunman" who may have been inspired by the Norway killer Anders Breivik.
Newspaper articles and a book on school shootings were found in the teenage shooter’s room.
Police also thought it likely that yesterday’s five-year anniversary of Anders Breivik’s attacks on the island of Utoya played a role in the attack. //

German police: http:// www.bbc .co.uk/ news/wo rld-eur ope-368 74497
BBC: "The gunman who killed nine people in Munich was obsessed with mass shootings and had an obvious link to Norwegian mass murderer Anders Behring Breivik, German police say".
Gromit: "False Alarm, Just a right wing nutjob who idolised Anders Breivik.".
Islay: "Another thread desperate to place a mass spree killing at the door of Muslims instead it turned out to be a mentally ill 18 year old who was desperately bullied for 9 years and flipped...".
The Beeb reports an "obvious link" between the killer and Anders Breivik; Gromit has upgraded "obvious link" to idolatry; and Islay thinks its all about bullying in the playground.
Two posts by fantasists wearing the "Nothing to do with islam" T-shirt. (Not that I know IN THIS CASE that there was an Islamist motive for the attack, but I'm not about to deny the possibility because of a statement by the German police, for reasons pointed out by Talbot).
Oh, by the way, can anyone tell me where the police spokesman mentions Breivik? I watched the link but didn't spot it. Was it the same place where he mentioned the nationality of the perpetrator's immigrant parents (not that THAT might be relevant, of course)?

He was a student, born and raised in Munich.
Police have found no indication that he had links to Islamic State.
There appeared to be no links to immigrants or immigration into Germany.
He appears to have acted alone.
He had previously received psychiatric treatment, including for depression.
A search of his room had unearthed a document about “frenzied attacks” and a book called Rampage in Head: Why Students Kill.
Munich chief of police Hubertus Andrae said the gunman appeared to be “obsessed with shooting rampages”.
The gunman appeared to have hacked into a Facebook account to tell people free food was going to be handed out at the McDonald’s where his rampage started.

I apologise for including you in my "fantasist" bleat, Islay. You're presenting an explanation based on the perpetrator's ill-treatment and mental illness rather than the Breitik connection; yours may turn out to be the right one.
My objection and the reason I used the word "fantasy" was that the BBC headline asserting the Breitvik theory was NOT based on the police statement in the link the article provides, and that Gromit had taken the theory and embellishmed it further. If the "violent materials" found in the killer's bedroom were related to Breitvik why didn't the police tell us as much? After all, the Polizei are as determined as the German politicians to play down any connection between Islam, immigrants and crime of any sort. So I do think Polizei, Beeb and Gromit are all fantasizing. If the suppositions turn out to be true I'll apologise to Gromit.
Concerning your note, there IS an immigrant connection (relevant or otherwise): his parents with whom he was living are Iranians. The fact that he is not connected to ISIS is neither here nor there - Islamist terrorism existed long before ISIS and will continue long after it. If his parents and he are Shia Muslims you wouldn't expect such a link anyway, would you?

Your link to the DT says this, Gromit:
'Authorities say "obvious link" between Munich shooter and 2011 Norway massacre'.
And further down:
'Munich police chief Hubertus Andrae told a news conference ...his motive was still "fully unclear"'.
The Breitvik theory maybe true, but there is no evidence for it other than the date. If the material found in the flat had a direct Breitvik reference it would have been published, don't you think? That's why I'm sceptical.
The "desperation" to which Islay alludes is in those who's first reaction to these events is "Whatever you do, don't mention Islam!".
