Coming from someone who has never actually lived under socialism, how can he possibly declare that it "must work"! Come to that can any learned person explain how living in a system with no actual wealth creation can possibly work?

He based it on the fact that the NHS is a paragon of Socialist ideals. Spot the deliberate mistake!

Taking another snippet out of context he also said '....being a socialist was nothing better than a hobby'.

He's not a socialist, he just thinks he is because he can afford it.
Just like Corbyn.
From each according to their means, to each according to their needs.
A truly caring society would be no bad thing.

Well, it most certainly worked for him!
What on Earth makes you even start to think that a socialism doesn't create wealth ? The working class creates the wealth (the rest are merely enablers) and in a socialist State almost all can be considered being working class.

You can't run out of other people's money since the money represents what is owed for past service/produce and still sloshes around the community. Someone somewhere is holding a portion of the money at any snapshot of time.
'Someone somewhere is holding a portion of the money at any snapshot of time.'

And generally having themselves a life of luxury whilst the peasants toil.

"From each according to their means, to each according to their needs.
A truly caring society would be no bad thing. " - a wonderful notion until you realise that there would very quickly be all needs and no means.
//The working class creates the wealth (the rest are merely enablers) and in a socialist State almost all can be considered being working class.//

How very noble Geezer, but guess what, the "rest" usually have the brains and vision. When it is not worth their while to take on the job of "enabling" the working class to gain employment, they shut up shop and move on. Result errr no jobs. Show me a working class man or woman who has been quick witted enough to haul themselves out of the 9 to 5 life who is still Marxist in thinking. Don't say Sugar he was an east end spiv. Still is.
Of course Socialism is wealth creating. The only difference with Capitalism is the distribution of the wealth.

Pure forms of both Socialism and Capitalism don't work for the same reason. They both do not have a balance of incentive and labour. So an entrepenure needs a financial incentive to create a company, and a worker needs to be properly paid for their toil.

Countries that have the imbalance tend to have problems.
OG; //What on Earth makes you even start to think that a socialism doesn't create wealth ?//

That's an easy one; examples are, the USSR of the past and North Korea of today.
It is only the capitalist element of China which has created the wealth in what they prefer to pretend is a socialist state.

"Show me a working class man or woman who has been quick witted enough to haul themselves out of the 9 to 5 life who is still Marxist in thinking" - they don't exists because they worked out that socialism/marxist, romantic notions that hey are, cannot possible work.
Question Author
this a good way of explaining why socialism cannot work.

^^ Good points on there.
There is one way though you can become rich without doing anything and that is finding you have oil under your land as the camel-drivers have found. They just sit around while someone else gets it out for them and gives them vast amounts of money. Soon be gone though.

Yes Khandro but mostly it's down to organisation and endeavour, look at Africa, should be prosperous but they just fight among themselves whilst most of their people starve.
