oh dear. will the government just shrug and allow the referendum vote to be bypassed? they could of course invoke the parliament act - or is that only there for really important national interest issues (like the hunting act 2004)?

well that's what the Parliament act is for. The last two uses were for rather fatuous issues, this would be a proper usage. As much as the SGB flap about desperately trying to find ways of welching on the will of the people, it will not stop brexit.

And we'd have betrayed our country and put ourselves in the control of external forces for ages. Of course no good citizen would be able to sleep well again knowing what they had done.

No the sensible solution would be to replace the upper house with a democratically elected chamber.
