Spitting Image

i read a book once called the Spitting Image set in medival britain in a dell and it was about a riddle set by a tinker to some children who used to sit on a church wall and look at the gargoyle. I am trying to find the author and a copy of the book. It is nto the book by Shutta Crum, or the vietnam book, or the book Leon and the Spitting Image.

Its a very old book, I read it in the early eighties.
