///I just don't see.......///

Therein lies your problem, TGT.

The discovery work needs to carry on behind the scenes but I'm not sure who ought to be appointed to pull all the threads together for the final analysis.

Jack....I agree. I can't see any reason why the Inquiry should not go on as before. After all, it seemed to manage on those 70 days when Goddard was abroad !
I think it is a bit like investigating the mafia, too much pressure from too many directions and after a while, it's better to leave it alone. This will rumble on until all the protagonists are dead - and then some.

What's that phrase about evil triumphs if good men do nothing?
yes Andy but the good men are not "doing nothing" - investigations and arrests are happenning all the time. Can someone tell me what they are actually "enquiring" about?

She looked the ideal candidate for the job on paper and had the added bonus of not being linked to our establishment.

Perhaps an ideal slot for 'our Nigel' he is not afraid of the establishment.
andy; I'm not advocating it, I'm saying that's the reality.
The chair of the independent inquiry into child sexual abuse has been asked to appear before MPs to explain why she has resigned.

A "full and thorough explanation" from Dame Lowell Goddard was the "only way" to move forward, said Commons Home Affairs Committee chairman Keith Vaz.

Mr Vaz said it was "not enough" for Justice Goddard to "resign and leave".
Like him or not vaz gets the job done !!

Well done Vaz !

As she is not a British, could she refuse to attend the enquiry ?
// She looked the ideal candidate for the job on paper and had the added bonus of not being linked to our establishment.//

yeah you dont get to be a judge without political savvy either
and I was surprised she had bolloxed it
perhaps she really thought it would run itself and all that was needed was light-touch judicial steering....

Anne A - can she refuse to turn up
I thought you meant to her own iinquiry and I thought 'blimey!'

can she refuse to attend the House of Commons
sort of oops I have a terribly important hairdressers appt in Dunedin ?

well she can as there is no power to compel ( the House could summons and imprison but all that has gone )

But but but she is a judge and would find it perhaps difficult to go back to judging and gavelling and screaming 'order in my court!' and be told by the old lags and cons she was sending down
" well judge - you dont obey the Law so why should I ?"

[ you know usual thing of we obey the law because it is the right thing to do and not because a policeman will come at you with a truncheon ]
