Neighbour Parmjit Singh said: 'His mental health problems are a scapegoat.

So certain people on here like to label other on here or derogatise them because of the plain obvious

So now the truth out would they also like to include Mr Singh in thw sweeping subject? (The Chair) ?

To solve this problem we have to remove the PC taboos and discuss it warts and all, the hand wringer s have to take a hike.

// time has come to introduce a 'dangerous persons' act //

You will find we already have that. Several in fact.
Islay, in the circumstances is it not reasonable to ask questions?
Grumpy...arguing against myslef for a moment, murders and robberies occur on a regular basis in Britain, but relatively few are associated with immigrants, etc.

The media are very quick to pounce on any report where immigrants, epecially Muslims are mentioned.
Mikey, //murders and robberies occur on a regular basis in Britain, but relatively few are associated with immigrants, etc. //

I don't think that's true at all. Our prisons are filled disproportionately with non-indigenous criminals.
Why do I (and presumably many others) feel less anxious to hear a crime like this is caused by mental illness rather than terrorism? That's a genuine query.
Gromit when I put "asylum seekers" I meant "asylum seekers" not asylum seekers who were genuinely seeking a safe haven from oppresion and torture.
Prudie....I don't think you need feel anxious at all !

We have 63 million people in Britain, and this chap only killed one person. Sad for that person of course but why should that make anybody feel anxious ?
Mikey - of course some people feel anxious. People are being killed just going about their everyday business.
Repiorted. Why does having the name Singh make you the 'usual suspect'
Naomi- I think you are mistaken about what was said about the attacker- I was following it closely and the first police spokesman referring to a description of the attacker said he was a Norwegian of Somalian origin. There seemed to me to be no attempt to hide his ethnicity. What matters anyway is whether there were terrost links.
Assurance from Mikey. Hmmmm.....
fiction-factory, // Why does having the name Singh make you the 'usual suspect' Naomi//

Pardon?

//There seemed to me to be no attempt to hide his ethnicity.//

I didn't say it was hidden, simply that by headlining him as 'Norwegian' both Sky and the BBC appeared to be keeping it low profile.

Mikey I'd have thought it was obvious, this incident in point if he were mentally ill well it's one of those rare things, if it was ISIS related it's more disturbing. If 10 people were stabbed on the tube we'd prefer to think the perpetrator was mad rather than our security had been breached.

If this man was a Norwegian, with a white skin, would we be doubting that he has mental health issues ?

You're absolutely right mikey, I vividly remember all the usual suspects saying Anders Breivik was a beautiful human being and what a pity it was that he had mental health issues.
Unbelievably some nasty people tried to make him out to be a terrorist ... a white person a terrorist eh? ... how low can some people get?
FF - I think he means that Mr Singh is not a "usual PC suspect".
Let's just wait until the police have finished analysing his computers and release some official info.
ISIS just want publicity- speculating about them just gives them more of that
//ISIS just want publicity//

None of it is good so, in my opinion, the more they get the better.
Thanks Rodney- it's not easy to follow is it. If youngmafbog wants a warts and all discussion maybe he should avoid phrases like 'the usual suspects' and 'hand-wringers'

//"...derogatise them because of the plain obvious "

What does derogatise mean? What is 'the plain obvious' ?

Maybe youngmafbog can rephrase the question for us.
Rodney? Sorry Randy!
Naomi- yes, it's an interesting issue.

Why would they do these attacks if they weren't seeking publicity?
just for the benefit of my limited understanding -

it's been reported that the accused was in court this morning, the charge being one of murder. which to me sounds odd because right from the start "mental health" isues have been brought to the fore, so wouldn't section 2 of the homicide act be applicable and the charge therefore be manslaughter?

or is it always the case that the initial charge is murder, with the "diminished responsibility" element being tested in court?
