So very sad, and on his last day of his holiday as well, just as that American lady was.

/// He said there was no suspicion that the attack was terror-related. ///

/// The police chief added that according to witness accounts, the two assailants also appeared to be foreign nationals. ///

Not sure Ayia Napa would ever have been high on my list of peaceful places to holiday, but of course this is a terrible and mercifully rare event
There are very few places on this earth that are totally crime free - all tourists can do is choose carefully and hope for the best.

Tragic waste of a young life.
Spain and Portugal both seem pretty safe, but again as Ich says, the foreign/tourist hot spots are probably best avoided.

There have always been cases of alcohol fuelled fights and stabbings now and again in the real 'clubby' ares of Europe such as Ayia Napa and Magaluf and I'd suspect this is what this is. Dying from falling off balconies seems prevalent too. Of course it's sad.
I know someone who stabbed someone with a bottle in a bar fight in Spain. He would have done exactly the same thing here!

The victim died.
Happens in British bars and clubs, too. I think you're more likely to be killed in a traffic accident than by violence where ever you go, unless it is somewhere like Sark where a Swiss holidaymaker died in a carriage accident.

So no, I don't think anywhere is safe.
Ayia Napa is a place popular with the young and foolish. Sad and tragic accidents are inevitable with the clientele.

It is the same story at many Mediterranean holiday resorts. There are resorts that appeal to the youth and others that appeal to families or couples, you take your pick and pay the consequences of your choice in terms of enjoyment.
Unfortunately could have happened in Southend.

You can't live your life not going anywhere or on what if's.
I have never been to Cyprus but I wouldn't mind betting that most of the people there are "foreign nationals2 at this time of year.
Ayia Napa is a holiday resort, so it will be full of foreign nationals. It's more likely to be a pub brawl than a terror incident.
Cyprus also used to be the place for fight night amongst the Squaddies.
There are fewer decompression visits now as less and less are leaving Afghnanistan. It was laughably twee how they got issued two tins of beer and had to do a swimming test to prove their mettle, whilst they chilled out.
I always go to Blackpool, a great British holiday, never seen any trouble there.
The Isles of Scilly are pretty safe if you can stand the rain.
I have been to both Southend and Blackpool and in both there were stabbings and fights, nothing to do with me by the way.
I'm off to Skegness next week I think that's about as safe as anywhere.
Outer Hebrides is probably pretty safe.
Apariah...and very beautiful !
I am going to disappoint our fans of Blackpool here on AB, but I have only ever been to once. 20 years ago, for a conference.

I thought it was one of the worst places I have ever visited in Britain....dirty, rowdy, and vulgar beyond anything I have ever seen.

Sorry !

Would that have been during the Labour Party Conference, 30 September-4 October 1996?

Yes I must admit their conferences did attract a load of dirty, rowdy, and vulgar individuals, :0)
well this is what happens on a wet night in Orkney
