The perception of black lives matter is more important.
I have no doubt that there is inequality and discrimination within any society and changing attitudes can be a slow and sometimes painful process. However this particular movement fails to realise that most crimes against black people are perpetrated by other black people.
Because of this black people as a whole (within the given area and demographic) are treated with suspicion from the start. Especially those within the most likely to offend age range.
That said it does not give anyone, even the police the freedom to use excessive force when it is patently obvious that the 'criminal' is unarmed.

But aside from that - we should not conflate the BLM with those who choose to use the movement for their own nefarious gains. Problem is, when rioter and looters use protest to steal, they reflect on the whole movement.
Let's not conflate the two.
These rioters are lowlife scum, criminals - and would use any excuse to steal. It happened in the Brixton, Manchester and Toxteth riots.
In fact, anywhere where protest groups form (Venezuela earlier this year).

I wonder what the percentage of black people that are killed or injured by the US police are in fact low life?
How many totally innocent men (in this case it usually is men) are killed or injured by US police? Because although there are some, the one a few weeks or perhaps it was a month or so ago where the care worker was shot comes to mind, how many low life's are shot or injured even if they have done nothing that particular time?
If you are a low life and you are in fact going about on this Monday morning with no plan to do anything criminal but you get stopped by the police is it more likely that a. You are a known low life to the police. b. Would try 'something' low lifeish to get out of it.
I tend to think it is the last two points that are what is really happening in the US but have no proof. Just a gut feeling.

I think you are on pretty safe ground here, offering a viewpoint on the police in America's attitude to black people, and admitting that you have no proof and it is just you offering something for people to consider.
But don't try that about matters Islam, there are those on here who will jump on you so fast it'll make your head spin!

I think the point about BLM is that the police need to rein in their more 'gun-ho' elements.
The point that needs to be addressed is that even if the victim is a lowlife, even if he or she has previous convictions, at the point of arrest, the law officers need to use proportionate force.
An ex-con who is stopped for a traffic violation is still someone who has only jumped a red light.

Surely you knew this would happen and will also happen to the UK branch, sp?
