They would beg to differ - and maybe looking at things from their perspective would be a good start.
If you want to try and reach a solution to a problem, you need to start looking for common ground - humanity in this case.
Starting from a position where you don't recognise the legitimacy of the other side's organisation is not really likely to set them off in a mood to listen to what you are trying to say.

I am pointing out the identical attitude towards both - "We don't negotiate with terrorists' is word-for-word the same approach.
