Why are some so touchy, homophobic attack or terrorist attack, does it really matter? What does matter however is the fact that innocent people were massacred.

The Mail is looking to make a link, but is careful not to come out and make it - because it may not actually be there.
As far as Mark Longhurst's reaction - as a gay man, he may feel that the intended target was the GLBT community, and he may well be right, but he behaved badly on the day and it does his opinion no favours that he was haughty and walked away because he perceived that the presenter took issue with him, which in context was an appropriate reaction in my view.

// We are all devastated,’ a senior Sky figure tells me. ‘Mark is a very experienced, distinguished journalist and had been given a cast-iron assurance he was staying. He has a wife and children and this will hit him hard. It’s dreadful.’ //
The journalist leaving, and an interview with a gay activist are not connected, as the SKY statement makes clear.
SKY knows that Owen Jones is a prat, which is why the invited him on the show. The disagreement, if there was one, was about semantics rather than any offensive interpretation on Longhurst part.
'A Typical Reaction We Have Come To Expect' could summarise your highlighting of any news story that shows homosexuals in a bad light.

I can't see any link between an onscreen argument and a presenter quitting. Even the Mail hasn't come up with one.
Was TV presenter fired over gay row with class warrior ?

Oh dear, I have dared to post a thread that includes a bad reaction from a person who happens to be gay, now I am Homophobic.
Must remember to add homosexuals to the list of Blacks, Muslims, Immigrants, Females subjects one should not post on, because of the risk of being accused of being Racist, Islamophobic, Xenophobic or sexist.
But what the hell, they are all popular subjects on AB so must keep their popularity up, all in the interests of the site, one understands?

However just to put the record straight, since some of you seem to be accusing me of linking the departure of a popular TV presenter and the on-air spat between him and activist Owen Jones, could any of you show me where I have made this connection?
Even the Mail have chosen not to hence their headline:
"Was TV presenter fired over 'gay row' with class warrior"?

Owen Jones' hissy-fit is not a 'typical reaction' and there is nothing beyond coincidence to link it with Longhurst leaving the channel.
Gromit is correct.....you see this as a 'typical reaction' from a gay man and I see your thread as a 'typical reaction' to any news item you can use to negatively highlight someone on your hit-list of easy targets.

AOG - //However just to put the record straight, since some of you seem to be accusing me of linking the departure of a popular TV presenter and the on-air spat between him and activist Owen Jones, could any of you show me where I have made this connection? //
Certainly - you did it by finding the link, posting the link, and then headlining it as you did.
You accuse people of 'mis-reading' your intentions - maybe that could be something to do with the items you post, and the way you frame them?

AOG - //Since some of you have chosen not to address the more serious question, maybe I should have used the headline;
"Should one ‘delineate’ between Islamist terror and homophobia"?
See how we go on with that. //
It depends on the context - as here.
There is an argument that the atrocity was motivated by homophobia - we can't know - but heading your OP as you did, you cannot be surprised if you receive some flack from the perceived approach you are taking.
If someone misunderstands something I have said - an occupational hazard when communication is written - then I tend to accept the responsibility as mine for being unclear, rather than theirs for misconstruing what I have said.
It's a thought.

And where did I mention 'Gay'?
But what I did put was, "A Typical Reaction We Have Come To Expect From Some".
It just happens he is gay, but he is also a Left-wing rabble-rouser, surely that is reason enough to drawn a typical reaction from a Right-wing rabble-rouser.
Better be careful in future though, not to put the words "A Typical Reaction We Have Come To Expect From Some."
Else all kind of minority groups will be popping up with the words:
"DOES HE MEAN US"?
