The obligatory statement that we have all come to expect.

/// 'No motive is being ruled out at this stage but terrorism is not the most likely case,' said police spokesman Xavier Dellicour. ///

Anyone that inflicts such carnage on innocent folk has to be mentally screwed.
So the question is superfluous. Until they find a different "justification" it will be officially assumed anyway.
Nobody who is completely sane kills others - either family or just on a random basis.

That doesn't mean that they are mentally ill (mad) it could mean that they are just evil and twisted (bad).

Many of our fellow AB members suffer from ongoing severe mental health problems - and we are not out there rampaging and carrying big weapons.

Most of these killers are male - debate that instead.
AOG - Yes, it feasibly could.

But the thrust of your point seems to be that mental illness is used as a 'get out of jail free' card by terrorists.

It's not.

Please feel free to correct me if I am misreading your point.
There are different sorts and degrees of mental issues. Not everyone is going to act, or to feel, the same 'out of the ordinary' way. If you aren't defined as sane, then you have a mental issue of some type. I don't think I'd include the description "bad" in that. "Evil" is just another description of the effects, and not a cause.
How would it get them out of gaol, except to a hospital maybe where they are still captive.

No why should we, in this case the potential killer was female, so why not debate this?
Mental Illness seems to be used more as a 'Let's keep the people calm and not stir up any more islamaphobia' excuse by the authorities, rather than as a 'get out of jail free' card by terrorists.

Did you also know that (in the US) almost all serial killers are white males?

I'm off - you boys enjoy 'debating' this matter. This year does seem to be more violent than usual, but it would be interesting to see the statistics.

:-)

I disagree.

If mental illness is found to be present when an atrocity is carried out, then it is reported accordingly. If it is not present, it is not reported.

The notion that someone suggests mental illness when none is detected, simply as a sop to avoid being accused of being Islamophobic is a ludicrous notion,

I think not. I think that in the interests of social cohesion that is precisely what is happening.
And of course you are entitled to your opinion, which is all it is.
That ^^^ was at AH
THEMOTLEY1 - //And of course you are entitled to your opinion, which is all it is. //

Not on this occasion.

The diagnosis of mental illness is a medical fact. If it is found to be present, the media advise that it is present, if it is not, they don't.

Those are facts, not opinion.
And another Porcine Aviator goes past!
More today in Australia, he shouted Alluha Akbar and stabbed her with a knife, and the cops are wondering if it was related to terrorism;

Andy-highes, //The diagnosis of mental illness is a medical fact. If it is found to be present, the media advise that it is present, if it is not, they don't.//

But they publish speculation often without ultimately publishing the factual outcome of investigations.

A woman has just been attacked in Australia. The report reads:

//A French suspect, 29, who allegedly said the Arabic phrase "Allahu akbar" during the attack, has been arrested. Police said they were investigating a number of possible motivations, including drugs misuse, mental health issues and extremism.//

THEMOTLEY1 - //And another Porcine Aviator goes past! //

That does not make sense.

'Pigs might fly / When pigs fly'

Meaning -

A humourous/sarcastic remark, used to indicate the unlikeliness of some event or to mock the credulity of others; for example, "I might make a start on papering the back bedroom tomorrow". "Yes, and pigs might fly".

Do you have a point to make?
Nobody who is completely sane kills others - either family or just on a random basis. Whether the medical profession or the authorities have a label for what they find and makes it official, or not, does not effect that there is something wrong mentally.

As an indication: there was a time when no one thought there was anything like mental issues, and it was all demons and possession. Didn't change the fact that in reality there were mental issues.

Are you alright?

You seem to be posting statements that make no sense.

Are you trying to say something pertinent to the debate?
