What does it matter if the policemen and women have tattoos? What does it matter if they wear a headscarf or turban, what does it matter what colour or creed they are. As long as they do their job and catch the criminals.
Yes, if they can be covered up by uniform. I don't want to see a police officer with a spider's web tattooed all over his face or a Man United tattoo on his neck.
Personally if a Police Officer was doing their job well it doesn't bother me - but I can see that facial and neck tattoos may startle and disturb some members of the public.
i think yes if they can either be covered or are of a “suitable” nature....except I don’t think that a tattoo’ed face is appropriate....personally I wouldn't mind seeing arm tatt’s under short sleeves but the subject should be inoffensive....so no naked ladies, violence, inflammatory slogans....and yes that goes for female officers too.
I thin the Police should present some dignity while doing their job, and it would be hard to take anybody in authority seriously if they had disfigured themselves in the interest of fashion.
I think the other issue not mentioned here is that people get tatt’s before they have actually found their long term career. The fire safety officer where I worked in the NHS was a lovely man...as is often the case an ex fireman invalided out due to work injury, smoke inhalation. He had got love and hate on his knuckles and some old tatts up his arms.
The opening paragraph says the police federation want their officers to be tattooed where ever they want including face and neck. Saying so long as the tattoos are covered is not what the police want.
The police are saying in effect that there are so many people they have to deal with who are tattooed, male, female, old and young, that if they (the police) were tattooed the offenders might be more cooperative. I admire their optimism but condemn their naivety.
