Annual Review - Today...

...left me feeling a little low.
BP was 130/91 - they weren't too concerned as for me on a clinic day that IS good. Heart rate left a lot to be desired 132 BPM - they put it down to being there. Will get my urine results from my GP in a weeks time as to kidney function etc. All my other bloods were fine.
HbA1c was up 8.9 - left me feeling annoyed as it meant I couldn't discuss starting a family of my own! BUT...they have agreed to have me in to see my nurse and have in between HbA1Cs to see how i'm progressing. Also they have told me about a new meter that sadly I can't have as it isn't available on the NHS and the sensors would cost £100 a month to buy. But my nurse is going to trial me on it for 2 weeks - going to see if she can stretch it to a month to see if we can see what is going on. So i'm hoping I'll get answers from that. Tea time Carbs:Insulin Ratio needs tweeked so will work on that, need to do a few checks through the night until Tuesday. Need to also decide whether or not I trust my Levemir through the night and not have to snack if my BM is at a certain level.
Also had my finger lanced - don't ask but WOW the needle was mahoosive!!

So thats me for another 4 months and will see how much more work is required in due course. I will get there slowly but surely. I can't fault my team really...and I have been given a green light to go on the organ donor register too so that is the best part of my day!

well done, you are through it....I wouldn't worry about the starting of a family as they will manage that if bingo arrives!.....you have to push for what you want!

I need to have everything settled before I fall pregnant DT, us Type 1 diabetic ladies need to plan ahead. So I am pushing for results by the end of the year hopefully...id love the new meter too but I can't have it - which my nurse thinks is very unfair!

I know they will Tony, but i need to get my body ready otherwise it could lead to complications not just for me but for baby too. But when there is something i really want I usually strive for it so I'm aiming for it this time.

Ta Queenie - am taking it is sort checking up on your bloods sugar and rather than sticking a needle into you every time - you can check on this meter - if it is I think it's great and sad that it's not on the NHS

This particular meter has a sensor that sits in on the skin and you hold the meter over and you get an instant reading and it will tell you if your levels are dropping or rising...it is something I would benefit from but cannot afford. It would save on 4 finger pricks a day and i think that it is so wrong that those who would benefit can't have because they cant afford.
There was a petition about this a week or so back I'm away to find.

Queenie - I heard about this "object" or something like it years and years ago. Then it was a "thing" inserted into your wrist or something and the insulin was naturally pumped through as your body needed it. At that time I thought that was great doing away with those massive syringes that were out at that time. My mother was one of the ones using the big syringes and whilst she was using them and me being young I don't think I gave her the sympathy she so so deserved. She kept hers by her bedside in like a lunch box of cotton wool that was steeped in methylated spirits - the needles sat in that and I used to say she was injecting methylated spirits instead. God that was hard looking back. Hope you get lucky on the meter majigs. Queenie

That sounds like an Insulin Pump.

If you google Freestyle Libre JJ that is the new meter that is on offer.

Its amazing how things have changed. When I was first diagnosed - it was mental the time it took to do a simple blood test or injection. But it is hard for youngsters to understand but that made me smile.
