/// AOG....I presume you mean the head-scarf, and I can't see any problem with that. ///

Now there is a surprise I didn't expect that you would.

Once again a rule for one, but not for another.
Its all about discipline, get the small things and details right and the big things will follow! The army, navy and air force, police, ambulance, fire crews etc etc, all have uniform standards. If parents only realised that teaching kids to do these things early in life then the kids and society will benefit in the future. Every home should have a set of rules, standards etc that people, young and old should follow, there is always a line that should not be crossed. When I was a kid it was my mum, saying, 'i'll count to 5 then you'll be in trouble' and once that count started , 1 - 2 -3 ........... I knew that it was serious and would obey her instructions, sadly it seems that a lot of parents have no discipline in the home and so it continues into the school and the outside world!!
I just hope this doesn't stand in the way of him getting the whole school behind him and achieving good results.

Not the best start to the term.
surely the headscarf can be the same as trousers or skirt or sweater....you don’t have to wear it (well you have to wear trousers OR skirt) but if you do wear it, you have to wear the uniform version. At my school, more than 40 years ago there were optional parts of the uniform, scarf, summer sandals and sweater IIRC but if we chose to wear them we wore the uniform version.
1. The first day of term is not the time to be pushing uniform boundaries.
2. If you want your child to attend a school which has strict uniform rules, then you have to abide by those rules.
3. Do not believe your child when they tell you that everyone else wears things that aren't allowed!
CloverJo, I've only just been back to this so in answer to your question from this morning.

No it was nothing to do with being trendy my daughter will go out of her way to NOT have trendy anything lol The trousers I got her were slim fit with a slight flare at the bottom (I thought they were nice and smart though) and the school rule is straight leg.

In all honesty she would probably prefer boys trousers. Luckily she has a twin brother so can often be found in his stuff.
The Head is completely right, as most people seem to agree. You are going to school to work and uniform stresses this difference from the everyday. There is also such a thing as 'bullying by clothing' when some pupils are flaunting designer labels and sneering at others. My own daughters stopped telling me about 'non-uniform days' because of this - they went in uniform and pretended they had forgotten.

The last school I taught in stopped non-uniform days for the same reason. The school I now help in was made into an Academy last year after a failed Ofsted - a clearly explained, easily accessible, new uniform was introduced, part of other measures to change the ethic, and it works.
Coming in late to this but have read about it previously. IMO he is totally right for enforcing the rule which means discipline is alive and well in this school. As for the parents who encourage the children (not students as they are children as pupils) they should be ashamed of themselves, but doubt they will be because if they can encourage their offspring to flout the rules....they don't give a tinkers cuss about much at all.

When I was a kid when it was time to get new shoes, it was a trip to the city (60 miles away) and buy the first pair that fitted, due to wide feet, high instep!
Next door's neighbour son was sent home on first day of school - while he has a mop of hair - it was considered too short at the back. Him and 20 others - about their hair really.
hair is a more difficult issue...I mean does he have to stay home till it grows? I had a work colleague who was about the same age as me. She had gone prematurely white haired over a school summer break...apparently it was in her family and as she wore her hair in a close crop, apparently she really did go back to school with completely white hair. her family weren’t worried as apparently it had happened before in the family but when she went back to school, she was sent home “till the bleach grows out” It took a note from the doctor to get her reinstated! this must have been about 45 years ago now.
Up till June I always cut my sons hair with the clippers but it went wonky and ended up almost shaving his hair off.

He was mortified and I had to send him in with a letter apologising for the shortness.
The school gives a clearly defined order of dress, - really that's all there is to it. If you can't accept it, too bad. Clothes today have never been cheaper, there are even shops specializing in used school clothes, and even if that is too much, the school has finances to help those who are in financial difficulty.
The BBC tonight focused on an extreme case of a girl who had the full dress except her black shoes were described as suede, if you then allow suede black shoes why not black trainers, and so it starts.

/// but when she went back to school, she was sent home “till the bleach grows out” It took a note from the doctor to get her reinstated! this must have been about 45 years ago now. ///

Perhaps she could have got away with it by wearing a head scarf?
uniform is uniform..we were always sent home if not in proper full uniform..if nail polish was on the nurse took it off..if nails were too long..the nurse cut them..same with make up and anything more than stud earrings, signet ring..or crucifix....nurse took charge...thems the rules ! school clothes are very cheaply available in supermarkets now ..same with shoes that meet the requirements..
it is the on cost that worries me

shoes ( correct, black ) one pair of.... has a cost if the pupil has one lot that will almost do....
// .if nail polish was on the nurse took it off..if nails were too long..the nurse cut them.//

those were the day ! - at my school the matron used a whip and threatened to cut the WHole Finger off !
and skool bleach - I still rememebr the taste !
carbolic soap at mine Peter !! lol
