Lee Martin was killed by a driver having been let off 8 times! He pleaded hardship the last time and yep, you guessed it the beak let him off. Christ why can't we ban these drivers. Far worse than drink driving, texting while driving needs looking at and the severity needs raising, should be a minimum 12 month ban to start with.

The driver should be in jail. The sentence should be mandatory when there is a death involved.

What gets me is that this d1ckhead drivers could buy a hands free kit for less than the cost of the fine.

The use of phones while driving is largely ignored by the Police. I see it all the time, and there is no sign that the Authorities are going to get tough with it.

He is in jail now but the point is the victim should still be alive because the driver should have been banned from the road.

TTT...I agree but banning him might not have resulted in him not driving.

We have many banned drivers still driving on our roads today.

Yes mikey but at least officialdom would have done what it can. If he'd the sort that ignores a ban then there's not much to stop that.

There is no deterrent using the current penalties for using a mobile phone while driving. IMHO, the penalty should be an instant 12 month ban and a £1000 fine. If they can't pay then lock them up for six months. If they get caught again during the 12 month ban, then it's imprisonment for 12 months.
A bit draconian some might say, but it's about time that somebody took this by the scruff of the neck and sorted it once and for all. Rant over.

I followed an 'L' plated motorcyclist yesterday, couldn't overtake him if I'd wanted to as he was all over our side of the road. He then fished in his coat pocket, brought out a phone and proceeded to use it, either texting or checking it. I haven't seeen that before
