/// Blaming the press, ECRI Chair Christian Ahlund, said: “It is no coincidence that racist violence is on the rise in the UK at the same time as we see worrying examples of intolerance and hate speech in the newspapers, online and even among politicians.” ///
Blimey, has he not yet noticed the rise of racial violence etc, more so in other European countries?
But then it would seem that our press have already been 'got at' when they are reluctant to call it a terrorist attack, with no ISIS involvement, just putting the blame on the mental health of the individual.

The idea won't work will it
Maybe we should tag them all once they're here too just as a further precaution.
Of course we'd not catch the ones who come in in lorries etc or as children/spouses of doctors etc.
But of course most potential terrorists are already amongst us given that most terrorists in Europe/US seem to have lived all or most of their lives in the countries where they commit their atrocities. Your own figures support this- they suggest that around 500,000 Muslims in the UK support the terrorists. So maybe the focus of attention should be on those?

Yes, not all Muslim terrorists/jihadist supporters in Europe have come in as asylum seekers/illegal migrants. In fact recent killers seem to have been home grown and so wouldn't have been picked up by your proposed checks, and children of parents with respectable jobs (like doctors) could still be radicalised.
Anyway, sorry AOG, we seem to have taken the thread off track.
Terrorism is a major worry in Europe (and across the world) but i read some statistics that showed that although there had been a spike in 2016 the underlying levels of deaths from terrorism are not much different than in previous decades. I remember IRA, Basque separatists, Baader Meinhof gang. PLO.

I'll let you do my thinking for me and answer it for me if you like. Bedtime for me. I am not even attempting to defend it or resolve the problems- I'm just saying that all this stuff about about not wanting them here is pointless as they are here, and all this stuff about more rigorous checks of incomers is hardly going to make any difference and may make things worse as more come in via illegal routes, and all this stuff about the press deliberately hiding info on the colour/religion of suspects is a symptom of the paranoia of those who peddle hatred based on colour/religion and want to create further unrest between communities and make things worse
I wasn't trying to be rude, FF, nor was I looking for an opportunity to impose my view on you. .I have a genuine wish that people (in my view) are complacent about Islamic terrorism think about its causes. What is this ill-defined process called "radicalisation". It can't all be "mental problems", can it?
But a good night to you.
But a good night to you.
I am not complacent about it, V-E- I accept it is a problem that needs to be tackled in a constructive way rather than by people moaning about Muslims on here and making unworkable suggestions to solve it. But whilst I am not complacent I am aware that the risk to anyone of being killed by terrorists shouting Allahu Akbar is far less than the chances of being killed by, for example, a family member/friend of the family (not mine obviously), random stranger when in a city centre at night, crossing a road when a dangerous driver comes along, a house fire, an electric shock in the home and even lightning.
Thanks for the feedback, naomi. The thread has run its course I think for us two.

fiction-factory, I haven’t made any ‘unworkable suggestions’ and this isn’t about people being killed crossing the road or by electric shock, or by lightning, or even by some lone lunatic. It’s about a destructive philosophy endorsed by thousands of the people we have allowed to come into this country and continue to allow to come into this country. I’ll ask you again. Why do you want them here? And before you skirt the question again by asking which of them I’m talking about, let’s say any of them.
I’d be interested in reading your answer to v_e’s question too.
