I hope the driver dosent get charged for any offences.
I would have done the same, it must have been frightening driving through that lot at night, when they are throwing stones etc.

Khandro, of course the dead man's status is unimportant but what is relevant is what was happening on the road at the time and that will be investigated . I imagine many of us may think we could have handled the situation better, but until it happens to you then we don't know so we?

//You are forgetting that this is British motorist and his unintended victim was a foreigner//
/// erm......he was British and in France. ///
Yes I have already stated that he was British, and his victim could have be British also, even in France, but he wasn't, he was a foreigner, fact.
Keep taking your pills.

Difficult to give a certain opinion when the circumstances are unknown. But I'd have thought that anyone who chooses to play silly beggers on a motorway (or major road for that matter) know they are risking their life (and possibly the lives of others) and so takes full responsibility for any outcome.
That stated, in the UK is is becoming obvious that if there is any incident at all it is always the driver to be held responsible and cyclists, pedestrians, and anyone else who might be involved, and be the real cause of the incident, are to be considered blameless and a victim of the evil driver: and laws changed to make the driver's lot worse and blame allocated to them regardless. Maybe it's the same in the rest of Europe ?

Meanwhile the moral duty of the UK is to allow family to go join their relatives in France, not to open the door to any family who wishes to use relatives here as an excuse to enter a country that already has more than enough citizens, and that could do with a reduction in the population not an increase.
The BBC quoted Calais officials as saying around 50 people had been placing obstacles on the road in an attempt to slows trucks so they could then climb on board.
The accident reportedly happened when the driver swerved to avoid the obstacles.
