Gang rape...that takes a group of people to take part in the act...all in agreement.

AOG - ///// I don't know how anyone can suggest a gang rape has anything to do with mental illness. ///
Really????????? Can you see any sane person committing rape? //
Rape is patently abnormal behaviour, but mental illness is not abnormal behaviour - and making careless and unfounded links like this leads to the sort of ignorance used in the OP.

Mamyalynne - //Everyone is entitled to their view - absolutely.
However we must also acknowledge there are people who are perfectly sane , yet equally ,vile, vicious and dangerous. //
Absolutely.
My issue is with the lazy stereotyping of both 'liberal lefties' and the mentally ill in an attitude characterised by the OP - that some people will 'excuse' such behaviour because of mental illness.
That is an insult to people who suffer from mental illness, and people who don't happen to share YMB's political views.

It's a disturbing incident if it turns out to be as reported, but despite teh headline asserting "Wheelchair-bound woman is gang-raped by six migrants at Swedish asylum centre" it covers itself later by adding that "it has been reported". The good news is that the police acted and arrested 6 men but it's a shame the Mail couldn't tell us why they were released.
The story may or may not be accurate. There are certainly some things that look odd.
Does she have a carer?
Who was the person accompanying her in the taxi and did they not come in with her?
Of all the places to stop why pick an Asylum Centre- I know I wouldn't?
Did she go in in a wheelchair?
Did the taxi driver/fellow passenger noy wonder why she was gone for so long?
If she was attacked then questions need to be asked about security- presumably the door was open and she could walk/ ride in and that suggests the asylum centre could come and go out freely without supervision.
If she was attacked then the law will deal with the attackers and if found guilty it would make sense to reject their application for asylum and send them on somewhere if possible.
Something doesn't seem right here.

just googling some swedish news sites, I have learned the following:-
//Does she have a carer? // not reported.
//Who was the person accompanying her in the taxi and did they not come in with her? // they did. allegedly he was instigator of the attack.
//Of all the places to stop why pick an Asylum Centre- I know I wouldn't? // that's where her taxi co-passenger (and dinner partner) lived.
//Did she go in in a wheelchair?// - not reported.
//Did the taxi driver/fellow passenger not wonder why she was gone for so long? // taxi driver not reported, passenger "was with her".
6 were arrested, 1 was released straight away, the other 5 were released last wednesday. this preciptated a riot in which 2 locals were arrested.
no links - they're all in swedish and I've been told off for posting foreign language links.

/// The mentality of these rapists can't be compared to what we know. This is a different culture entirely. ///
Do you not want to be associated with the notion that different cultures inform rapists' behaviour in different ways?
That's a barmy notion - I'd steer clear of it as well if I were you.

AOG - //And some of us know it, whereas others are not so forthcoming for some strange reason. //
You don't 'know it' at all - you surmise it, based on your own opinions and views, but that does not make it fact.
Others are not so forthcoming because they are wary of bandying cultural stereotyping around because it is ignorant and bigoted.
