This Awful Pain
20 Answers
Let me first start by saying I had Trochanteric bursitis in my left hip almost 2 years ago. The steroid injection didn't help so the surgeon decided to remove it in January 2014. I have had no bother since.
About 3 weeks ago I started having discomfort (rather than pain) which felt like bruising (as if I'd had a fall down the stairs...but I hadn't). It is in my left buttock right at the top of my leg. Over the last couple of weeks it has gradually got worse & today after a 45 minute drive, when I got out of the car I simply could not put one foot in front of the other because of the pain. This eased after a few minutes, allowing me to walk. The pain is identical to the Trochanteric bursitis problem I had in 2013. I know I will have to see my GP but can this sort of bursitis cause trouble in this region? Also, in the last couple of days, I have been suffering from stress incontinence which on occasions has been quite embarrasing. I just wonder if this pain could also be the reason for this?

Yes the pain could very well be linked to the stress incontinence , get an early appointment please and get this checked out.

Hopefully Sqad will be around soon to offer an expert opinion but sciatica comes to my mind:

A friend thought it could be sciatica Buenchico but I have no pain down my leg & this pain is on the inner section of my buttock cheek where it meets the top of my leg. As I said, the pain is identical to the Trochanteric bursitis. It is quite frightening to have the experience of getting out of my car & simply not being able to move because of the pain. I am fine whilst walking but sitting & then getting up is the problem. I hate getting older!!!
I can't offer much in the way of advice on location, more commiserations and best wishes.
I've had issues with trochanteric bursitis for some time. I had a steroid injection both sides at my rheumatology clinic, some years ago now, which really calmed it down but it's back with a vengeance. Mine is an intense burning pain down the side of my thigh, although it can get very acute with stabbing pains at times, like large hot needles being stabbed it in, when irritated. I actually shrieked the other day with it.
I've got things to help prop me in positions where it isn't so irritated which help to a degree if that would help you?
I really hope you can get an early appointment and get something sorted.
Don't be embarrassed by the stress incontinence. Far more common than you probably imagine. Wearing pads could help in the interim, put your mind at more rest maybe, also easy to get rid of and replace if you are out and can get to a loo.
I wish you all the best. Let us know how you get on.

thank you Eve. I just looked on my doctor's website re the availability for an appointment but nothing till end of next week! I think they have a few slots they put on first thing in the morning for each day so I will be online first thing. Failing that I will pop down to the surgery. I wish you well too Eve & yes, I will report back x
Went & saw GP today. He was very thorough & examined me well. He has diagnosed Piriformis Syndrome. He has given me a sheet with exercises to do to strengthen up the muscles but told me to watch YouTube videos on this as they are easier to follow rather than a piece of paper with diagrams. The "other problem" I had turned out to be a water infection. Oh, such is life!!
