Of course he has a point. All this 'pot calling the kettle black' sort of thing is just white noise. You can't ignore what has been said just because you don't like the messenger. Maybe he should just pass a note to someone else and they say it. That way someone might actually sit up and do something about it. Society is losing cohesion ever so slightly all the time...

I do hope he's doing something to protect Russia's children.

I think who said it is very relevant.
Does any country claim it can boast that none of it's children are ever harmed ? If not does every country therefore have diluted national values ? Do they all have no future ?
The only thing any reasonable person can agree is that the daft rules of the EU and the inappropriately compassionate attitude of some who feel the emotion but fail to see the consequences led to the problems that now occur.
The stated court case is still ongoing. It sounds as if the Austrian laws are badly drafted if, not understanding a boy was saying, "No", is any form of defence, but again, who can claim their country has all it's laws in perfect state ?
No, the fact that Putin said it, is very relevant. It is to simply to distract folk for all the things he and his country are getting wrong. That is the only thing worth taking from the criticism.

//Not addressing the issue of Putin on this issue would be like asking us to comment on how wonderful it was that Mussolini was able to make the trains run on time, without mentioning how he fully embraced Hitler. //
on a point of pedantry, Mussolini predated Hitler in power by a full ten years, and Hitler idolized him. Mussolini didn't embrace hitler, it was the other way round.

''inappropriately compassionate attitude of some who feel the emotion''
I doubt many actually 'feel the emotion' or else they would be a permanent emotional wreck, after all there is always suffering on the planet somewhere. I think for many it is about their concerned for their reputation as a wonderful human being. (despite slipping up on the odd occasion)

What I meant was:
you can't really avoid the issue of Putin and his record both at home and abroad on this issue, despite aog's request.
The example about Hitler and Mussolini is in a sense irrelevant.
Anyway I don't think Mussolini DID make the trains run on time, did he, any more than Putin has been a beacon for the young disadvantaged on Russia?
