"This is wonderful news. Constructive cooperation and peace is a total winner."

Lol. ( Taken from comments in your link )
Good news.
Perhaps the person assisting the Butcher of Syria will listen to Trump, where he hasn't taken note of the UN.
Better than the war Clinton would have dragged us into.

Agreed ymb.
8 years ago President Obama tried the same thing and it didn't work. They are in any case unlikely to say anything else. There is another 2 months before Trump gets his slimy hands on the tiller and 4 years thereafter for him to face the harsh realities of international power politics
Agreed.
^That was to ymb and Gromit.
I have to agree that there are still big problems though, but dialogue beats war any day so I'm hopeful there may be a way forward.
And you don't think there's been dialogue already ymb? What war are you talking about ?!
there'll always be chaos while conflicting politics is about, which is always
Well I hope there has is and will continue to be.

The war I am talking about is the one Mr Putin mentioned that would have happened with Clinton. Dont you read the papers? (or AB)
i may be wrong but Donald Trump strikes me as the sort of person who may lack morals and principles but responds well to flattery.
I'd imagine the Kremlin's flattery mongers are working overtime just now.
However Trump, if he is to have any hope of getting anywhere, will need the support of powerful people in the Republican Party. And many of those people, Newt Gingrich for example, make Clinton and Obama look like Namby Pamby yoghurt knitters or whatever
Nope, I missed what the papers had to say about Putin threatening a 'war'
Can you provide a link?
ichkeria, are you hoping that talks between the two won't 'usher in a new era of 'constructive cooperation'?
I certainly am hoping that. But just to repeat: Obama tried it and it didn't
work. The problem being that the nature of the beast in the White House may have changed but the one in the Kremlin is still the same.
So by all means try, but I can't see a happy outcome
I think this is encouraging.
Ich > The problem being that the nature of the beast in the White House may have changed but the one in the Kremlin is still the same.

So, Putin is a leopard and Trump, on another thread, has 'rhino skin', so what is the output?
You should ask what sort of world would Putin be happy with and what sort of one would Trump be happy with.
Try and see what they have in common.
If you are still optimistic after that little exercise then fair play to you :-)
That was not directed at any one person in particular btw
