If this wasn't patently true, I wouldn't have believed it.

If the judge didn't believe the "excuse" he should have jailed him.

I don't believe that he would have punched a baby in the face. I think he was showing off and being stupid in front of the seven year old child, trying to amuse the child.

Who and why would someone punch a 5 day old child in the face, in a supermarket, in front of its mother?
"Who and why would someone punch a 5 day old child in the face, in a supermarket, in front of its mother?"

Creepy weird loners like the one in the article.

" I think he was showing off and being stupid in front of the seven year old child, trying to amuse the child."

Which in a way is a type of "Grooming" and sentencing should have reflected this imo.
He has a wife. he is not a 'weird creepy loner'.

Grooming?.........That's a bit of a leap in the dark, Lunol.
I recall reading this story a few days after it occurred and thinking it would turn out to have either been misreported or a dreadful mistake, so bizarre it seemed.

The fact the Judge dismissed Hardy's claims yet only added a fine/costs and some compensation seems even odder.

@ 1857 ///I haven't suggested that punching dolls is a imprisonable offence, or if I have, then maybe my grammar is at fault.///

@ 1833 ///If he really thought it was a doll, then he should put away somewhere, where he can't harm anyone///.
"He has a wife. he is not a 'weird creepy loner'.

Many serial killers, rapists and terrorists have been married and were described by the police as "Loners"

Grooming?.........That's a bit of a leap in the dark, Lunol.

How would you describe the motives of a grown man sparking a conversation with a seven year old girl and trying to impress/torment her?

"The fact the Judge dismissed Hardy's claims yet only added a fine/costs and some compensation seems even odder."

This seems quite the norm in paedophile cases where I geniunely start to question the reasons for the judges sympathy for those accused.
Hi Mikey, I watched footage tonight of him going in to court with all his family, his wife seemed particularly convinced he would be found innocent, talking to the cameramen waiting. It's a very odd case, but I actually believe he 'did' think it was a doll, so was their assured manner entering court.
Wow Lunol, you're really making some wild leaps now.
Lunol, I think you are seven steps ahead of yourself.

His wife knew the babies mother Lunol, hence why the couple were around the child in the first place. He wasn't a random stranger.

My husband has himself spoken to and or engaged with the children of my friends and none of us thought it inappropriate.
Oh I see. I missed that and thought that he was a random stranger who had just walked up and engaged the group.

He's a twisted psychopath who needs broadmoor for a few years then definitely.
Oh and apologies all.
He should have his hand shut in a door, preferably a heavy steel one.
I'm with Tilly at 19:37, but it is a very, very strange case.
