Now I am no Royalist but I do understand the Queen is in a real good position to get a grasp of many things as She can see and hear things I dont have the opportunity to.

No she's not ... The current (lack of) proper dialogue between the two sides is ridiculous - both seem only interested in perpetuating one of two myths 1. All 'leavers' are old, white, poorly educated, racist thickos or 2. All 'remainers' are either self-serving metropolitan elitists or terrorist-appeasing muesli munchers. Obviously neither of the...

jno; Do you understand 'the people' better than she does?
-- answer removed --

Clearly jno does not.

Of course maybe jno is a courtier who is at her elbow every time she engages a commoner in small talk so knows more than we do?

The fact that The Queen never ever lets her true feelings on anything be known outside her family and close friends automatically leads to speculation like this - and speculation is what it is.

The Queen may well have spoken as quoted, but anyone with more than a passing knowledge of the way media works will know that context is everything.

The Queen may have said that, and followed it with -"Well I for one hope we stay in Europe ..." and that bit was not quoted.

The simple fact is, the Queen has views, and we do wonder what they are, but I would not take the puff pieces of those who would like to believe that they have some sort of access denied to the rest of us as being in any way believable.

There are those who know what the Queen thinks - but none of them work for the media!!

Yes she is, but the question still remains; Do you think she is a stoopid swivel eyed looney Head of State?
//but to claim as that lickspittle argument does that she "understands her people" is nonsense. //

I never claimed that. my challenge was to your assertion that all she does is fly around on a royal helicopter. the rest of your response serves to illustrate your acknowledgement that she does in fact do more than that - understanding politicians very well takes a good deal of effort - for which, thank you.

To a degree I agree with you Andy.

However 'leaks' willalways happen and it does not mean they are incorrect we simply cannot verify them.

What I find intriguing on this one is the BBC refused to publish it originally (surprise surprise) as they could not verify with another source. I'm guess something has changed?
Khandro: possibly. I bet I've met more of those beyond the three sectors I mentioned than she has over the last 60 years. I bet you have too.
ymb, I assume the BBC has run the story now because it's no longer news. It was run at the time by the Sun, which claimed it had two sources - and who knows, perhaps they were telling the truth. It appears Gove was one of them, and maybe he was Kuenssberg's source too.

I still can't find it on the BBC website.
YMB - //Yes she is, but the question still remains; Do you think she is a stoopid swivel eyed looney Head of State? //

No.
As regulars on here will already know, I am far from being a Royalist.

But as those same people will also know, that I have said on many occasions that if she were to put herself forward as a Presidential candidate, she would have my support. Its the essential undemocratic nature of the office that is the issue, not the current holder.

Of course, the monarchy is political....how can it be anything else ? .....it just isn't Party-political.

Betty has seen PMs, Presidents, Popes, Dictators of various sorts ( some of which our Government has forced her to be nice to ) come and go since her reign began in 1952. She has built up a tremendous wealth of experience over that time. She has her Privy Council, in order that she can take advice on every subject under the sun.

As regards her supporting BREXIT, I can see no reliable evidence that she did, or still does. And she is certainly not some swivel-eyed loony, despite being surrounded by many that could be described as such !
Question Author
OK then Mickey let me ask it another way, just for you:

If Her Maj did say she was pro brexit would she be a stoopid swivel eyed Looney?
most of the grandchildren have professional jobs, even inc the two daaarling princesses, Beatrice and Eugenie
The queen is a shape shifting reptilian ... ask David Icke ...(I'm joking but there are those that do believe)
No, of course not. The phrase was coined by a Lord Feldman ( allegedly ) a close ally of Cameron, in 2013.

So.... I fail to see how it can be applied to Betty now ?
Question Author
Ah, it's just me & TTT that are one then!
The question should really be not, does the Queen support Brexit, but why on earth would she (or anyone else) wish to remain and surrender its sovereignty to institutions that are fundamentally unaccountable, are hell bent on pursuing the false dream of federalism, and provide no mechanism for reversing direction, and whose only "solution" to problems involves giving itself ever more authoritarian, rather than democratically legitimate, power.

YMB...to my knowlege, I can't recall anybody calling you, or TTT a "swivel-eyed loon"

Lets face it....this is the usual DM non-story.

Have you taken over from AOG as the chief rummager in the DM bins now ?
how could the queen possibly support leaders who aren't democracitically elected... good question!
