Fair enough - although I suspect that the victim was chosen for his vulnerability and his ethnicity was probably just a 'bonus' - but obviously it's not possible to second-guess the mind-set of people who behave like this.

I don't know of any AB'ers who are as sensitive about ethnicity as you infer - with the possible exception of yourself in fact, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

The question that must be asked is when does a hate crime turn into a racist crime?

Surely the two are identical if both the victim and the attacker are of different races?

In this particular case, there is only one label (unless they are in short supply) and that is the racist label.

And I think some of us would class them rather more sinister than just "depraved cowardly bullies", that hat is mainly worn by some in school playgrounds.

I don't think that is the case, AOG. The motive must be race for it to a race crime. If for example someone hated homosexuals and attacked one who happened to be of a different race, it would be a hate crime, but it wouldn't be racist.

Political? - Despite Trump being mentioned, I doubt they have the intellect to be dubbed that.
Cowardly and savage - Without a single doubt.
